The city center is a charming mix of old city walls and a large modern shopping centre. With multiple restaurants, museums, cinemas and theatres there is plenty to be explored. Time spent at embarkation and disembarkation ports may be limited which may restrict availability of shore excursions.

Spains busiest fishing port, Vigo sits on the rugged west coast of the province of Galicia. Over the centuries, this charming town and its resilient residents have been the target for many naval attacks including a couple from Sir Francis Drake. In these more peaceful days, you will still find the best view of Vigo is from the fort (Castillo del Castro) built to defend it from the hill overlooking the harbour. From here, your Vigo cruise tour will lead you through the steep, narrow streets of the atmospheric old town (Barrio del Berbes) to see (and smell…) the daily fish market. Try one of the oysters which are fresh from beds in Vigos ‘ria’ – one of the sunken sea-filled valleys for which Galicias coastline is renowned. And our Vigo cruises are also a chance to visit nearby Santiago de Compostela, the subject of pilgrimages since the Middle Ages.

Some of the best views of the Portuguese capital come as your ship cruises along the Tagus River. You pass the Belem Tower and the impressive Monument to the Discoveries with its statue of Henry the Navigator before arriving at the Lisbon cruise terminal. Although small for a European capital, this city does sprawl a little so you would do best to concentrate on three districts – Baixa, Bairro Alto and Alfama, each with its own distinctive style, making Lisbon cruises a must see. Baixa has busy streets of inviting shops, cafes and restaurants while Alfama is the atmospheric old town with narrow cobblestone streets, medieval and Moorish-style buildings, wrought-iron balconies with trailing flowers and a mix of small shops and bars. Bairro Alto is another historic district with narrow streets and is a steep climb from Baixa so look out for the 100-year-old lift (Elevador do Carmo) near Rossio Square. With such a variety of destinations to explore, cruises to Lisbon bring to your holiday a balance of both modern and historical grounds.

An ancient city with a name to match – it was founded more than 2,200 years ago by Carthaginian leader Hasdrubal – Cartagena is now one of Spains busiest commercial centres. Step ashore here, though, and you are immediately aware of its rich history. In fact, you see it even as you cruise towards the harbour as this is flanked by towering fortresses. Then, in the centre of the old town, you will find the original Carthaginian castle and sections of the old city walls. But Cartagena is also a city which moves with the times hence the new harbourfront development which includes the unique National Museum of Underwater Archaeology. As part of Murcia province, Cartagena cruise port is also an excellent base for visiting the city of Murcia itself and its distinctive Baroque cathedral; the 17th century religious sanctuary of Fuensanta; the Fortress at Lorca Taller del Tiempo; the spa resort of Balneario de Archena; and for touring into the mountainous interior or along the Costa Blanca to Alicante.

Britons love cruising to ‘home from home’ Mediterranean cruise port Gibraltar – and not just because it has some excellent pubs and tax free shops (good buys include glassware, china, leather goods, alcohol, perfume, silk and cashmere garments). Gibraltar also offers wonderful views of the Bay of Gibraltar and the Moroccan mountains from the Rock Restaurant, served by cable car from the Grand Parade. Birdwatchers can spot more than 230 species and there are clearly marked nature trails you can follow to discover the country’s flora and fauna. The most famous ‘fauna’ of course, are Gibraltar’s Barbary apes – get off the cable car at the halfway station to see these, then proceed to the top and hire an audio tape charting the Rock’s fascinating history. Alternatively spend a day at the beach – Catalan Bay is the prettiest, with its colourful fishing boats and excellent seafood restaurants.

A gateway to so many Andalucian attractions and Costa del Sol resorts, Spanish cruise port Malaga stands out in its own right as a vibrant destination with its own unique character. This second city of Andalucia has many Moorish influences, seen at their best in the stunning Alcazaba. Built on the site of a Roman fortress between the 8th and 11th Centuries, the castle’s huge walls and fortified gates ensure a grand entrance. Inside, a restored Roman amphitheatre now acts as an outdoor entertainment centre. Immediately behind the Alcazaba and rising high above the city with spectacular views, are the ruins of the 14th century Moorish castle, Gibralfaro. Malaga-born Picasso is recognised with a history of the artist’s life at the city’s fascinating Picasso Foundation.

You cruise right into the heart of historic Cadiz as immediately across the busy Avenida del Puerto from the Spanish port is the main square and shopping area. From there, it is easy to find your own way around this compact city. Behind is the 18th century cathedral (El Nueva) and the view from the top is worth the long climb up its internal stairs. The narrow streets of the old town below are lined by tall Moorish-style houses with flower-decked balconies mixed in amongst some small shops and tapas bars. Cadiz dates back to the 12th century BC so is the oldest continuously inhabited city in the western world but sultry Seville has long since outgrown its neighbour. La Giralda (the bell-tower next to its Gothic cathedral), is in Sevilles historic Jewish quarter which also has the whitewashed houses and exquisitely coloured bougainvillea that everyone associates with this lovely city.

Ventura launched in 2008, becoming P&O Cruises’ first superliner and elevating facilities to a new level. In recognition of the ship’s success, a multi-million pound makeover was completed in April 2013, refreshing the ship with a contemporary feel more usually expected in a 5-star boutique hotel. Offering family-friendly cruising in modern surroundings, Ventura remains an exceptionally popular ship in the P&O Cruises fleet.

Welcomed into the stunning atrium, passengers embark to an array of friendly faces; crew that will be on hand to make sure every minute of your cruise is enjoyable and stress-free. The atrium is beautifully lit, highlighted by swirling staircases and sleek steel accents.

» Family Friendly
» Fine Dining
» Tranquil Oasis Spa
» Sports Facilities
» Four Pools
» Two-deck Theatre
» Children’s Clubs

The contemporary feel of the ship continues throughout its cabins, where burgundy and cream décor is accented by dark wood fixtures and finishing touches by British designer Nick Munro.

When it comes to keeping you entertained, Ventura never fails to deliver. The entertainment and activity facilities form the basis of her success and there really is something for everyone. Sea days can be spent in any of the four pools on board; the Beachcomber and Laguna pools are popular family pools, whilst Riviera Deck aft hosts the much quieter Terrace Pool. All provide the perfect place to relax poolside, watching the waves ahead shimmer in the sun. The Beachcomber pool boasts a retractable roof, so even if the weather should fail you, the pool time fun doesn’t have to stop.

Serenity Seekers

Serenity seekers can head to The Oasis Spa and The Retreat. Ventura offers one of the largest spa’s on the seas and the amazing facilities and varied treatment programme offer ultimate indulgence. Soak away your stresses in the adults-only Oasis pool and hot tubs, or head to The Retreat, where you can hire a VIP cabana and hide away from the world for the entire day, nothing but your thoughts and your holiday read to distract you.

Fitness Fanatics

Ventura offers some of the most expansive sporting facilities in the whole P&O Cruises fleet. Enjoy a game of football, basketball or tennis on the sports court, or head to the state of the art gym where personal trainers are on hand to offer expert advice on fitness goals. Cutting edge fitness classes will obliterate the calories in last night’s indulgences, while yoga and Pilates classes are held against a backdrop of sunsets and sea views.

Family-Friendly Cruising

Ventura does family-friendly with style and the ship offers one of the largest children’s clubs around. The Reef is made up of five age-appropriate kid’s clubs, offering activities for kids aged between 6 months and 17 years. Teens can congregate in an area packed with the latest technology, gaming stations and cool crew, whilst younger children can get creative and enjoy hours of fun games and visits from some of their favourite characters. There’s even a dedicated children’s tea each day, so parents can eat later in the night once the kids are settled.

Night time entertainment is provided through a combination of live music, comedy performances and West End-style productions. The two-tier Arena Theatre hosts the ever popular Headliners Theatre Company show, while the Tamarind Club is a live music venue with performances from solo artists and bands. Havana also hosts live music, before transforming into a nightclub with music and merriment continuing late into the night.

Dining Choices

There are 12 places to dine on board Ventura, including 3 beautifully decorated main restaurants. The Cinnamon restaurant and the Saffron restaurant each offer Freedom Dining, allowing passengers to dine at whatever time and whichever table they please, providing great opportunities to meet new people every night. The Bay Tree restaurant offers more traditional Club Dining, with passengers choosing between a 6.30pm or 8.30pm sitting, eating at the same table each night.

Speciality Dining is provided courtesy of two formal restaurants and one more relaxed tapas-style eatery. Marco Pierre White provides the menu for The White Room and the expertly crafted French cuisine is served in sumptuous surroundings. Dine al fresco in the restaurant’s attractive terrace area and enjoy dinner in the sunshine or beneath the stars. Continuing to receive rave reviews, Sindhu offers diners a taste of India with every dish prepared and presented by expert chefs. The Glass House delivers tapas-style food matched with an exceptional wine list, all coordinated by UK wine expert Olly Smith. The Glass House also offers food and wine pairing dinners twice each week, along with wine talks throughout the cruise with knowledge imparted by the head sommelier.

Informal buffet dining offers a more relaxed atmosphere, with equally delicious food as that in the main dining room and an abundance of choice for diners. The Waterside and Beach House buffet restaurants are open throughout the day, often playing host to themed dining in the evenings.

Evening Drinks

With twelve bars on board, the options for a relaxing evening drink are plentiful. Sip a cocktail beneath an every changing cityscape in the Metropolis Lounge, where a 20 metre floor-to-ceiling video screen takes you on a journey around some of the coolest destinations in the world. The Exchange pub is quintessentially British in style, with beers on tap, widescreen TV’s showing live sporting events and even karaoke evenings throughout the week. Bring some Las Vegas style excitement to your evening at Fortunes Casino, where you can gamble against Lady Luck on a range of slot machines and traditional table games including roulette and three-card poker.

Dress Code

Ventura largely adopts an Elegant Casual dress code most evenings. Formal Evenings will take place twice each weekand create a real sense of occasion throughout the ship. Gentlemen should wear black tie attire, whilst ladies may choose their finest evening gowns. The focus is on dressing to impress and enjoying a glamorous evening.
