Portland Castle overlooks the harbor and is one of Henry VIII’s best-preserved coastal fortifications. Fishguard is an oft-overlooked, picturesque village with clusters of quayside cottages located in the south-west county of Pembrokeshire in Wales. This small town has much to offer – from marvelous coastal views to cozy cafés and pubs. Learn about the ancient places of worship at the Saints and Stones trails or St. David’s Cathedral. Step back in time at Castell Henllys, a unique Iron Age hill fort recreated with fantastic replicas of Iron Age roundhouses. Enjoy a remarkable clifftop view of North Pembrokeshire’s beautiful, rugged coastline at Dinas Head Walk or stroll through the picturesque Lower Town Harbour, where Richard Burton, Peter O’Toole and Elizabeth Taylor filmed the 1971 version of Under Milk Wood.

The coastal suburb of Dún Laoghaire is popular for strolls on the East Pier, and locally caught fish and chips. The National Maritime Museum of Ireland has nautical art and artefacts inside a 19th-century sailors’ church, while the harbour is a busy hub for fishing, water sports and cruises. Nearby Sandycove is home to the James Joyce Tower and Museum, as well as the sheltered beach and bathing spot at Forty Foot.
