    P & O - On line checkin

It was in April 2015 that I first used the RCI on line booking in system for the inaugural voyage of Anthem of the Seas. You uploaded all your details including credit card details and photo and then printed out the paperwork which had a bar code on it. On entry to the arrival hall at Southampton you gave the paper with the bar code to one of the numerous cruise reception staff who scanned it into their tablet and through you went to security and onto the ship. Your key cards were already in your cabin waiting for you. 17 minutes from parking on the quayside to entering my cabin. Used it many times since and no problems. It would appear they designed a system that works.

    New MY P&O CRUISES

It was certainly live in April 2015 at Southampton when I did the maiden voyage of Anthem of the Seas. I have just checked the date of my article to make sure of the date.

    New MY P&O CRUISES

What amazes me is that Royal Caribbean have had the electronic system for years and it works perfectly. Booking, check-in, on line brochure, their version of cruising history, loyalty club level and points, automatic upgrades as part of their loyalty program and much more. Is it a case of you get what you pay for i.e buy the best system and it works?

    P & O - On line checkin

Royal Caribbean introduced this at least 5 years ago and it works well. My last trip with them was 17 minutes from quayside parking to cabin.

    Silversea cruises

Sailed on the Silver Muse and yes, it was excellent. However before deciding have a look at Saga's new ship, Spirit of Discovery, all balcony, truly is all inclusive including all speciality restaurants and transport from your home to port or airport and return up to 250 miles. Also as afcandrew says, have a look at Crystal to which I would add Regent and Azamara.

    Spirit of Discovery

Is this on the 12th afcandrew?

    Spirit of Discovery

I am sure DavidH once their new ship arrives they will be in a position to extend their itineraries to more exotic locations. Enjoy your coming trips and keep safe. OWT

    Spirit of Discovery

On the point of the free VIP Service that Saga offer, Solent Richard was correct when he referred to a personal chauffeur service up to 75 miles. However it is also free up to 250 miles for ocean cruises and unlimited for river cruises and long haul holidays but you may have to share the vehicle. Which ever you have it still makes a very attractive feature in making sure your holiday begins the moment you close the front door.

Charging IPads & IPhones on Princess Cruise Ships

An iPhone charger with an adapter for US style sockets. It certainly worked when I was on a Princess ship last October.

    Spirit of Discovery

I have read the review by Solent Richard and would correct one point other than which it is a good article. The distance for the car service as received from Saga "Regarding the Saga VIP Travel Service, for ocean cruises the mileage limit is 250 miles and for river cruises and long haul it is unlimited" I sailed on the ship in November and was very impressed. It truly is, 'all inclusive' even the excellent speciality restaurants. My cabin was the lowest grade but very well appointed.his was my cabin which was the

    Happy New Year

Thank you for posting Davybe, fabulous and what a finish. Happy New Year everyone.

    Where is everyone

I sincerely hope you are right HLM. Unfortunately the forum went quiet long before the run up to Christmas unless that starts in September. I agree the 'Off Topic Room' has a significant number of posts, but could I respectfully say it is nowhere near the number of posts for 'Cruising' 20,088, 'Cruise Line' 16,247. Add in blogs, destinations and types of cruise which adds a further 7,000 plus and you are at over 43,000. At least this debate has brought a few people back to posting

    Where is everyone

As Countrygirl has already said, this is a dedicated cruise forum run by a company that only sells cruises. I think even their own staff have forgotten about it, when did you last see a post from one of the team, yet the FB page run by one of the team is booming and I look at it most days.

    Considering cruising with MSC

Have cruised with MSC several times and never been disappointed. They offer a cruise experience away from the stuffy attitude of some cruise lines and are like a breath of fresh to an industry that in the past has been steeped in tradition of formality. You are on holiday, enjoy, I am sure you will have a great time with a forward looking cruise line that has developed a huge following and has some of the most innovative ships in the industry.

    Where is everyone

Hi DavidH So, so true and a great pity, there are some really interesting and knowledgeable people on the forum, however many forums are suffering, I am a moderator on one which has noticed a drop in numbers over the years, however we do arrange ship visits during the spring through the summer months, but we are a travel forum not dedicated cruise. On another dedicated cruise forum the admin have helped arrange forum cruises, arranged ship visits, invites to launches and naming ceremonies etc. I would pose the question, what has Bolsover ever done to help enhance the forum or reward membership!!! Facebook pages with bloggers seem to have taken off in a way I don't think anyone predicted. A couple of years ago I set one up because my children were fed up with reading of my travels on my private FB page. This is now followed not only by cruisers but also cruise lines. Another advantage is you see a persons real identity so it wards off the keyboard warriors who hide behind a screen name and adopt multiple identities. Most cruise lines have them run by their followers and the numbers are amazing. From a recent Princess cruise I shared a short video of a galley tour and pictures of my cabin, they had a reach of 18.3k and 13.7k respectively, a cabin picture from AmaMagna a few weeks back 11.6k. Enjoyed your TUI review as did others who obviously look in but don't post. It's disheartening when you go to the bother of writing something and it generates little or no discussion. Having said all of that I will continue to look in until such time as Bolsover close it and will join in any interesting threads.

    Where is everyone

And so we head towards the end of another year and it appears the forum is heading the same way. With one post a week I cannot see it surviving. Most of the regulars have drifted away, no doubt like myself because there is nothing to interest them. There are nearly 70 ocean cruise lines, add to that nearly 40 river cruise lines world wide, between them operating 100's of ships to destinations around the globe, I personally find it disheartening that the forum is mainly occupied by posts about P&O with a smattering of Celebrity and TUI. What about the new Virgin ship, Scarlet Lady, a ship that offers something different with another on order, the new MSC and NCL ships offering something different, the new Saga ship where everything is included, the new AMA river ship, AmaMagna and many more but nothing is mentioned. I truly find it disheartening and hence the reason I only look in now and again. It is after all supposed to be a dedicated cruise forum!! I do however wish everyone a Happy 2020 with calm seas, good weather and memorable cruises.

Sorry to hear that Davybe, I wish you every luck for the future and long may you be able to cruise. Friend of ours has just returned from a cruise with Cunard and was not impressed. Last week I had 7 days aboard Hebridean Princess and that is a ship you don't hear much about, but without, a doubt it is the best food and service I have ever had on a ship anywhere. Sunday it is off to AMA Waterways on their new ship Magna. Should be interesting as it has some new concepts to it apart from being nearly double the width of other river craft. Has anyone been on it already as I would be interested to hear their views.

    Guaranteed Cabin "Worth booking"

It gave me 'Black' status. Which ship are you referring to. The Diamond Lounges for example on Anthem and Ovation are quite large.
  19. Oldworldtraveller

    Guaranteed Cabin "Worth booking"

That's interesting as Elite on Celebrity and Diamond on RCI are interchangeable. As a Diamond member of Crown and Anchor Club on RCI you get the Diamond Club from 5pm -8pm each evening and it can run even later, the drinks menu is certainly not limited and neither are the available snacks.

    Cunard

I think we should remember that Cunard is an American company and everything is in $dollars. As the £GBP has gone down so it has made drinks and everything else on board more expensive. I can remember when my uncle came over from The States in the 50's there were 3 $dollars to 1 £GBP, what went wrong 🤔

    single cruisers turned over again

The single supplement does at times seem unfair but it is based on the premise that the cabin will have double occupancy and of course the 'Bean Counters' have also worked out the approximate spend per passenger. However it's not the same with all cruise lines if you are prepared to come away from your favourite and try something different. Over the last year there have been many deals with no single supplement by various cruise lines. A reputable agent such as Bolsover will be able to see what is available. Fred Olsen have had a lot of deals and in my humble opinion offer an excellent cruise experience and sail from various ports in the UK for those that don't want to fly. www.fredolsencruises.com/singles-cruise-deals

    Where is everyone

Hi HLM, Didn't mean to start a controversial discussion but just point out, that not just when he went, but also several others, the forum went quiet and has remained so. It seems the only time there is a flurry of activity now is when something controversial comes up. This has the knock on effect that when new members come to the forum and see that its been virtually inactive for days on end they go somewhere else. Such is the problem of a forum that only deals in one specific subject. Many people I know who used to spend time on forums now spend time following various bloggers on their Facebook and Twitter pages, they frequent the Facebook pages of their favourite cruise lines as they receive more interaction from their fellow travellers. We live in changing times. OWT

    Where is everyone

Have been away on trips and like others of my age, spending time receiving hospital treatment, but most of the time when I have looked in many of the posts were all about P&O, in fact when I look at 'Unread Content 11 are about P&O which personally does not interest me. Many of the old regulars have gone elsewhere, this seems to happen with all forums. Some seem to go when Solent Richard and a couple of others departed whilst others went when the forum changed its layout. As always, just my opinion.

    Jordan Visa Requirements

Have been into Aqaba twice on ships and neither time did we need a visa. Have just checked my passport and it is stamped with entry and exit stamps but no visa.
