Have a great trip DavidH. You are heading to one of my favourite areas for scenery, Scotland. I never turn down an opportunity to cruise the Western Isles. Last September and October I cruised there on Crown Princess and then on the beautiful Hebridean Princess. Hebridean Princess really is a fabulous small ship with the best food I have ever had. One lunch time they served fresh Salmon personally served from the fresh cooked fish. Each day a different type of freshly baked bread was available. There is something magical about leaving port with a pipe band playing.

I think I have mentioned before on this forum that, despite all our thoroughly enjoyable cruises over the years, our favourite form of holiday remains taking our touring caravan across to France.  Only a few days ago, I was checking out the pricing of a journey through the Chunnel but, that is back off the agenda for now with the latest twist in the European tale.
We have, however, just had our first weekend of the year with the 'van at a Caravan & Motorhome site, meeting up with my sister and her husband for the first time since Christmas.  Next week we're heading North for a few days in York, an overnight in Durham and then pushing on to Scotland where we plan to meet up with our Grandchildren for the first time since February before they return to their re-opened schools in only the second week in August.
I was very impressed with the way in which the C&M Club have set things up on their sites to make a camping trip about as safe as you can get.
    Thank goodness for the caravan.

As afcandrew said, don't forget to come back. Everyone in the travel trade is complaining, the cruise companies cannot sail, travel agents seem only to be kept busy with cancellations and refunds, crews are back in their home countries itching to return to the ships to earn money for their families, writers and journalists have nothing to write about. Two cruise companies have ceased trading, ships are being scrapped whilst others are being placed in long term layup. Not much good news there. The good news is two new cruise lines are starting and river cruising has re-started in Europe. I am going on an English river cruise in September which at least is a start for the UK. I truly believe that if the English tourist trade act sensibly, give good serice and don't over charge they have a great opportunity to resurrect some of what they have lost over the years. The UK has stunning scenery, beautiful beaches and a history matched by few, maybe why in normal times tourists from around the world flock here in their millions. September last year I covered part of a 'Round Britain Cruise' and selected to return from Edinburgh to London by train. I was amazed at the beautiful beaches we passed just south of the border, long stretches of golden sand lapped by blue waters. This is now an area I want to visit for a few days. Maybe we should start a thread on our favourite ports, countries etc. to get people back on the forum and talking.  Just a thought.

DavidH reacted to Oldworldtraveller in CMV in a last-ditch effort to stay afloat
Have sailed with them many times and always received a happy cruise experience. The effects will be far reaching, Carnival will no longer receive the money for the two ships CMV were buying, crew and shore staff without jobs, suppliers etc. CMV were competition to many cruise lines, now that competition has gone will cruise lines hike their prices knowing there is now less choice.

Some upbeat news on vaccines. AstraZeneca found that their experimental Covid19 injection had no side-effects and also built up some immunity. They still talk of it being probably available by the Autumn.
AstraZeneca’s is looking to test two high doses of its experimental vaccine against the new coronavirus in later stage trials rather than focus on approval for single or lower doses of the vaccine, its biopharma chief said on Monday.
“Right now, the safe thing to do is go with two doses, and then we’ll start exploring single doses or lower doses,” Mene Pangalos, executive vice-president for BioPharmaceuticals R&D, told reporters.

In case [like me] you thought the CDC were being particularly bloody-minded about their extension of the 'No sail' order I am linking this report from them as to their reasoning. It is all of 20 pages but I would draw your attention to page 12.

Hi afcandrew and many thanks for the recommendation. It looks a beautiful hotel, however the price quoted is more than I want to pay for a quick break but thank you for taking the trouble to suggest somewhere.
Hi DavidH and thank you for the suggestion. Had a look at Warners but unfortunately there is nothing available until the 31st July and we were looking for next week. Again thank you for taking the trouble to suggest somewhere.
I am beginning to think that a hotel near the sea offering what they do in say Spain/Portugal at aa reasonable cost would make a fortune, however at 76 I am a bit old to start on another venture 🤣

DavidH reacted to RayO in Proof of Carnival shares
As an addendum to the original thread.
A few years ago I thought that I would do the same with RCI shares as with Carnival shares, they offered similar obc. I had to trade on the NYSE to buy the shares as they are not dual quoted like Carnival shares.
I duly applied for my obc with RCI only to find that, unlike Carnival, they will not give you shareholder obc if you have any booking incentive obc. We had a small amount of obc from booking so were refused shareholder obc.
Basically, it isn't worth the hassle with RCI if they are still doing the same as they were then.
Just thought I'd give my tale as information for anyone who might consider doing something similar.

The good news this week is that Staysure insurance now covers you if you’re taken Ill with Coronavirus while away on a cruise but not if that’s your reason for cancelling a cruise. The bad news is that P & O have cancelled their cruises until the middle of October.
One day we’ll all be cruising again.🌈🛳

We have two cruises booked for 2021, April on Arcadia and again on her in November. I do hope by then we will be able to go. Mind you by next April I would be happy just to go onboard and cruise the oceans for a couple of weeks. Just having somebody else to cook and clean for me would be great.

Well, this particular over 70 has taken the bull by the horns.  Prompted by an email from Bolsover this morning (a follow up to an enquiry following the cancellation of our Holland America Japan and Russia cruise back in February) we have booked the same cruise again but for April 2021.  Their just announced "Have It All" promotional package, combined with the 25% future cruise credit they gave us for the cancelled 2020 cruise, meant we had an offer from HAL that was too good to miss out on...…………………...or will we?????????????

I should have said main holiday months.  It usually works out better value than two or three single policies and also covers any UK breaks which also look unlikely in the foreseeable future.  Never mind.  The garden is looking great and I have, for once, seen it’s  progression instead of coming home and deadheading the flowers I’ve missed!! Seeds got sown early and are thriving from the constant attention.   Also, we have managed to re-decorate three rooms when the sun wasn’t shining.  So some absolute positives.  Lucky to live on the edge of the countryside with loads of green spaces and open skies. Feel so sorry for city dwellers and hope this lockdown can be eased for their sakes at least.

Good for you David - hope it works out really well.  An acquaintance was on the Zaandam South America cruise that was affected by the current crisis.  He was on for far longer than planned as disembarkation at ports in South America was denied.  He is a very experienced cruiser and had nothing but praise for the way HAL dealt with it all.
