  1. I HAVE JUST RETURNED FROM A FANTASTIC TWO NIGHT MINI CRUISE ON VENTURA TO CELEBRATE A GOOD FRIENDS 50TH BIRTHDAY. I HAVE SAILED ON VENTURA IN THE CARIBBEAN FOUR YEARS AGO AND ALTHOUGH YOU CAN TELL SHE IS THAT BIT OLDER AND A LITTLE TIRED AROUND THE EDGES, THIS DID NOT SPOIL OUR OVERALL ENJOYMENT. THE CRUISE GOT OFF TO A GREAT START. WE HAD FOUR BALCONIES ALL NEXT TO EACH OTHER AND OUR CABIN STEWARD VERY KINDLY OPENED UP THE PARTITIONS BETWEEN THEM MEANING WE COULD ALL CHAT AND ENJOY A FEW GLASSES OF CHAMPERS IN THE SUN. I WAS SURPRISED TO FIND THAT THE FORMAL EVENING WAS ON THE FIRST NIGHT AND THAT DINNER WOULD BE AT 8.45 AS THIS HAS NEVER BEEN THE CASE ON ANY OTHER CRUISE I HAVE SAILED ON, BUT IT ACTUALLY WORKED QUITE WELL. THERE WERE THE USUAL HEN AND STAG PARTIES AND LARGE GROUPS ON BOARD WHICH YOU WOULD EXPECT FROM A MINI CRUISE,HOWEVER IT WAS STILL FAR FROM ROWDY AND THE OVERALL SERVICE/FOOD AND EXPERIENCE WAS SECOND TO NON. I AM ALWAYS AMAZED AT THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS ON FOOD AND SERVICE AS IN MY OPINION IT COULDN'T BE FAULTED. THE STOP IN GUERNSEY MADE FOR A PERFECT DAY TOO, WE HAD A LITTLE WANDER AROUND THE SHOPS AND A FABULOUS LUNCH BY THE PRETTY HARBOUR. OVERALL A GREAT CRUISE, AMAZING WEATHER AND EVEN BETTER COMPANY.
  2. I HAVE JUST BEEN LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE A TOUR AROUND THE BRITANNIA AND WOW WHAT A SHIP !. LOVED HER SO MUCH THAT I HAVE BOOKED TO SAIL ON HER IN SEPTEMBER. THE BRITANNIA FOR ME IS UNLIKE ANY OTHER P&O SHIP ON THE INTERIOR. SHE RIVALS ANY 5* STAR HOTEL I HAVE STAYED IN BEING BOTH STYLISH AND CONTEMPORARY WITH THE MOST SPECTACULAR ATRIUM I HAVE EVER SEEN ON ANY SHIP . I THOUGHT THE CABINS WERE PERHAPS A LITTLE ON THE SMALLER SIDE, ( ESPECIALLY THE BATHROOMS ),BUT THERE WAS CLEARLY NO EXPENSE SPARED ON THE DECOR, AND FURNITURE. I HAVE BOOKED A CABIN TOWARDS THE AFT OF THE SHIP FOR MY FORTHCOMING CRUISE ON HER, PURELY BECAUSE THE BRITANNIA DOES NOT HAVE STAIRS MID SHIP. I WOULDN'T WANT TO SPEND TIME WAITING FOR A LIFT JUST TO NIP UP OR DOWN A COUPLE OF FLOORS, AND I ALSO LIKE TO USE THE STAIRS TO WORK OFF ALL THAT FABULOUS FOOD !. THE FOOD WAS INDEED FABULOUS, AND BRITANNIA IS DEFINITELY A SHIP FOR FOODIES HAVING FIVE " FOOD HEROES" REPRESENTED IN THE VARIOUS CAFES AND RESTAURANTS AROUND THE SHIP. THERE IS EVEN A COOKERY CLUB ! WHICH I CANT WAIT TO TAKE PART IN. I TRIED THE MARCO PIERRE WHITE MENU WHICH WAS EXCELLENT AND I AM REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO TRYING THE LIMELIGHT CLUB, SINDHU AND THE EPICUREAN NEXT TIME. THE OUTDOOR SPACE SURPRISED ME THE MOST ON THIS SHIP AS THERE IS SO MUCH OF IT !. THE MID SHIP ALONE HAD NOT ONE BUT TWO FULL SIZED POOLS SIDE BY SIDE, SURROUNDED BY CLASSIC BOUTIQUE STYLE FURNITURE . THE SPA IS ALSO EXQUISITE AND RIVALS THE SPA ON QM2 WHICH TAKES SOME DOING. I HAVE ALWAYS ENJOYED P&O AS I PREFER THE BRITISH STYLE OF CRUISE, HOWEVER MY FAVOURITE SHIPS HAVE BEEN THE CELEBRITY SOLSTICE CLASS SHIPS, AS THEY ARE THEY ARE SO ELEGANT AND CLASSIC. THE BRITANNIA COMBINES ALL OF MY FAVOURITE ASPECTS IN ONE SHIP, SO I THINK I HAVE DEFINITELY FOUND MY FAVOURITE

    Canaries In February??

Hello Tigerlilly, I have been to the Canaries several times in February/early March and the temperature is mild and warm ( 18-20 deg ). There is a bit of a breeze in the Canaries so this can make it feel cooler though. Does the cruise you are looking at leave from the uk ? because if this is the case then you are likely just to get three or four days of good weather, so make sure you choose a ship where there is plenty to do indoors !.

    Children In Need

I was referring to parents who can't work as they are looking after their children ( who are often disabled or worse still dying ! ). Isn't that what " Children in need" is all about ? I think A debate about the state of our benefits system comes under a different topic.

    Children In Need

THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO WOULD GIVE ANYTHING TO ACTUALLY GET THE OPPORTUNITY TO " GO TO WORK " AND SUPPORT THEIR FAMILIES AND BE ABLE TO FEED THEIR CHILDREN. I AM PROUD TO SAY THAT I WORK IN AN OFFICE OF GENEROUS FOLK WHO ARE CURRENTLY SELLING CAKES, DOING A TOMBOLA ETC. ETC. TO RAISE MONEY FOR THOSE LESS FORTUNATE !

    Sickness

I ALSO THINK THAT IS A FAIR POINT BEARTOES, BUT WOULD INSURANCE COMPANIES BE PREPARED TO COUGH UP IF YOU WERE GENUINELY ILL AND REFUSED BOARDING ?

    Sickness

I was wondering if when filling out the health form at the port, what would happen if I had suffered from a sickness bug prior to this ? would I be be refused boarding ? and If I was would I be given a full refund from the cruise company ? I wouldn't want to be caught out losing all my money as It doesn't say in my Travel Insurance that I would be covered for this.

    Celebrity Solstice

Hello Fi Fi, I have been on the Eclipse which is pretty much the same ship/layout etc. Stunning ship ! lots of outdoor space so perfect for a cruise around Alaska. I found the food/service/entertainment with Celebrity outstanding .
