I completely disagree, having a dedicated area on deck for smokers is sufficient in my opinion. That would be like the major cruise lines deciding not to accomodate vegetarians and I doubt that would go down very well.

i think it also boils down to the small ship/large ship experience. my gran has travelled with Thomson, Cunard and NCL and she favours thomson for a fun friendly cruise and really rates the staff, entertainment and food, but then cunard for a quality relaxing cruise with great ports of call. i suppose it depends which sort of holiday you fancy!

Cartagena with that mix of old and new. The old town with its protective walls, shops and colonial style buildings, the new town with its modern areas and beautiful silver sand beaches. The whole area has a vibrancy about it that I have never found replicated anywhere else in the Caribbean or indeed anywhere for that matter.  A great deal to see and enjoy.

It would appear so Ron! I just don't understand how people can complain about something when they aren't forced to be around it? If you don't like alcohol, don't go to a nightclub, if you don't like smokers/smoking, don't go to the smoking area, simples!

We really did not know what to expect on our first cruise. It was shortly after we were married in '97 and kind of spur of the moment when we booked our cruise on the Carnival Sensation. The cruise changed our lives forever as It became our first choice for a vacation. Growing up in the Midwest away from oceans we would migrate to a Florida beach and spend a week or so looking at the ocean. Now we spend a week or so on the ocean being waited on, fed and entertained!

I think with any other cruise line it would be worth it, but celebrity include branded drinks in their classic package anyway! So I'd say stick with the classic unless you really go for the premium cocktails happy drinking!

dont watch it for lots of reasons, one of them was Sir Bruce, he should have been put out to the pasture years ago, the main one though is Tess Daley, cant stand the woman.  I have quite a few friends who work for the BBC both behind and in front of the camera, they tell me she is supposed to be a real Diva, no one is allowed to speak to her unless she talks to them first and really got ideas above her station

and of course it clashes with XFactor

    Good morning Pebbles.

I too was a fan of Bob Marley.

However, there is on the island of Tortola,  located on the beach at Cane Garden Bay, a place called Quito's Gazebo. Owned by singer/songwriter Quito Rymer.  He is probably now the best known Caribbean reggae exponent and a visit to Quito's Gazebo is well worth one's time...

People tend to find it easier to pick up a pen if they are upset about something rather than happy. Others aren't happy unless they are moaning about something. As already been said, you can get an idea of the person from their review, and bad reviews are often written by someone you wouldn't want to know any way.

I totally take your point Solent Richard regarding making an analysis of the writer, as a big fan of people watching I also like to image what type of person he/she is.  I have many times thought that some people expect Celebrity cruises at Thomson prices. To quote a few clichés - you get what you pay for, horses for courses and as we say "up north" there's nowt so queer as folk.

Do you find reviews useful or more of a hindrance?. A few weeks before we went on the MSC Magnifica I started reading reviews from such sites as Cruise Critic and ended up feeling sick at the thought of a whole week aboard this ship, for me it spoilt the build up to the cruise which I usually enjoy. Although there were a few good reviews, for the most part they were awful. Almost everyone agreed the ship is indeed beautiful but that was where the good points ended. I thought I was in for a week of cold, bland slops for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the staff surly, miserable and unhelpful etc, etc, etc The reality for us was quite the opposite. We had a brilliant week, the food was excellent, plenty of choice which was both hot and tasty. The staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. I think that my review reading days or over, I will wait until I am aboard and form my own opinions.

    Good morning Pebbles.

Barbados is fine except that it is more than usually a 'turn-around' port.

Having once done the island tour we now head for the beach and in that respect there is just really one place to go, The Lobster Alive Bar ...

which is next door to The Boatyard...

...better known as the beach bar for the cruise crews.
