    Following the Dress Code.

I agree with Pesky Pirate. If people don't want to dress up they should choose a cruise line where they don't need to.

My problem seems to have been sorted. Many thanks.

I also had to sign in yesterday. It is so long since I did that my password seemed to be wrong. Have now reset it so will try again.

P and O have no excuse for not solving hot water problems but personally we have had no problem with their service. With one exception we have had an excellent cabin steward and our waiters have always been smiling and cheerful. We talk to them about their families and treat them like friends. If we happen to see them in a different venue we have always been acknowledged. In fact on our last cruise one of them presented me and a couple of other ladies with a flower made from a paper napkin. The captain could often be seen around the ship with a cheerful good morning etc and the officers also greet you as you walk around. Because my husband is hard of hearing we tend to keep ourselves to ourselves so any moaning passes us by. After a life of combining work and a family I just appreciate being looked after. I agree that the older ships don't compare with Celebrity but on the whole I can't knock the staff. Maybe I've been lucky.

    Iceland in July

Thank you David. Looking at the photos of Iceland available on line it certainly looks a worthwhile holiday from the photography point of view.

    Iceland in July

We are hoping to cruise to Iceland in July having just sorted out our travel insurance. We had to cancel our Christmas cruise due to illness. I would appreciate any advice on the sort of clothes to take. Will we need thick coats, gloves etc or can we expect similar temperatures to the UK.

    Iceland in July

Thank you Jensen. About what we thought weather would be - very mixed. We are waiting for excursions to become available as we are now finding it more difficult to get off the ship to do our own thing.

    Reykjavik in a Nutshell!

As I said in my last post, we are hoping to go to Iceland in July and have just sorted out our travel insurance. We had to make a claim in December as we had to cancel our Christmas cruise due to illness. I would welcome any advice on the sort of thing to pack. Will we need thick coats, gloves etc or will the temperature be similar to our summer weather?

Pleased to read this review as it is a while since we've been on Oceana and we are on her again in December for our first Christmas cruise.

    What to wear Christmas Day

Are you usually on freedom dining?

    What to wear Christmas Day

Thanks for that Dancing Queen I had expected to do that but wondered if it was customary.

    What to wear Christmas Day

Does anyone know if our cabin steward and waiters will expect a gift at Christmas i.e. Money inside a Christmas card?
  16. To veer from tipping topic. We are cruising at Christmas for the first time. Is it customary to give cabin steward and waiters a Christmas card or a present of cash?

    P&O Quick.

Never before but we are also cruising at Christmas and got our info last week
  18. I' ve found these postings very amusing. After several "moaning" experiences we tend to be anti-social and keep to ourselves with a table for 2 whenever possible. We are not rude to people who want to chat or want to join us for a coffee or a drink but try to avoid the moaners. Several cruises ago one lady complained that the waiter never asked if her and her husband wanted bread. She went on to say that they'd told him on the first night that they didn't eat bread but he should still ask. My friend had a lady complain that there were too many WCs on this cruise. My friend said there can never be too many toilets. The reply was "I don't mean toilets but working class".

    Complimentary cake

Yes as long as it is In the Costa venues. I think all P and O ships do.

    Oceana air con

When is she having her refit? We have booked a Christmas cruise on her this year which we're really looking forward to. Do hope it's not a disappointment.

We like to book starboard side when visiting the fjords as when returning from Gereinger you sail very close to the seven sisters waterfall. Fantastic. Tinkerbell

    Dress code J712

They have 4 formal nights on a 14 day cruise and one will be black and white night. The rest of the nights will be casual although many men on the Aurora last week occasionally wore a jacket on casual nights and the ladies were mostly very smart. It will be the same on Arcadia. Enjoy!
  24. About 3 weeks before we go on a cruise if I happen to go into our spare bedroom I find that my husband has decorated the room with a dress suit, dress shirts, numerous pairs of trousers and shirts. Not to mention the shoes. He takes size 11 and loves to have a pair to match each colour trousers and these are lined up ready for packing. When he realises that I've seen he always says that he knows he can't take everything but he's put them there "just in case". When do others start packing?

New Boy To The Cruise Club Forum

Hi Andrew I have just read your first posting so welcome to the forum. Compared to you my husband and J are relatively new cruisers. We started in 2008 when a medical condition prevented my husband from flying. We try to do two a year as it is an ideal holiday for us as our activity levels seem to be declining yearly. I notice you are on Aurora this year. We are sailing to the Baltic in May on Aurora. It is our first time on this ship so are looking forward to finding our way around. We have been to the Baltic before so are mainly doing our own thing i.e. wandering, taking photos and finding coffee shops. Haply cruisjng. Tinkerbell
