    taxis at barbados

When we have had an overnight stay at the Barbados cruise terminal there have been taxis around in the evening and I have seen fellow passengers use them. As always in the Caribbean if there is a demand for a service there will be a supply!

    Drinks Package

Our last bar bill on a recent 14 night P and O cruise was less than £500 for 2 of us and we felt we had plenty of alcohol included in that, so like many others on the forum, this is not for us. I have never cruised where there is a drinks package or all inclusive on offer. I wonder if this leads to more incidences of irresponsible behaviour?

    Aurora to become adult only.

On Aurora in April 2019, just after the change to adult only. Doesn't bother me if it's adults only or not, as we cruise outside school holidays so it tends to mainly be adults on board anyway. I shall be interested to find out what the kid's club space will be used for. My guess is a speciality restaurant, such as the Epicurean.

How many days until your next cruise?

Haven't worked out number of days, but we have one at Christmas, one April 2019 and just booked one for 2020, which is over 21 months away.

    MRS B

We have just returned from a 35 night cruise on Ventura. Took 2 litres of gin in the suitcase. We were not asked by check in or security staff if we had alcohol, although we know the suitcase would be scanned. At the first port we were asked if we had purchased alcohol. It seemed to be a policy of honesty, as bags were not searched and scanning had taken place ashore. After that, we were never asked about alcohol and at one port we brought on a bottle of wine which we drank in the cabin. At the end of the cruise we put on the questionnaire that the policy was unfair to passengers on longer cruises, after all we could have taken 2 litres on a 2 night cruise and be completely wasted without spending any money at the bar. But then we are not that boring!!
  6. Oh heck! Just heard about this on the news. It's a port of call on a cruise we are doing next month. It's probably my least favourite place in the Caribbean anyway and we are booked on a tour as we never feel safe there. However, not all passengers will have booked a tour and I wonder if they will be confined to the ship? Does anyone have experience of going to anywhere on a cruise where a state of emergency has been declared? What is likely to happen? I don't know if the itinerary can be changed at this stage. It's already been changed to accommodate avoiding islands with hurricane damage.

    Christmas cruises

Hi Sunnygirl, We have done 2 Christmas cruises with P and O. The first in 2010 was a complete disaster. An adult only ship sailing from Southampton to the Mediterranean, it was like spending Christmas in an older persons home. Add to that poor weather and an outbreak of Norovirus and you get the picture..... However in 2016 we tried again on Azura in the Caribbean and we loved it. I thought that there was a great Christmas atmosphere on board and there was a really good age range on the ship. My favourite thing was the nativity play performed by the children. It was a real hoot! And of course if you had enough of Christmas stuff there was the glorious sunshine to enjoy. We loved it so much we are going again for 2018 and we would have gone in 2017 but for family commitments.

    Changes to Itinerary .

Sorry to add to the misery, but we have just returned from a holiday in Madeira and norovirus is prevalent in the resort at the moment, so keep up the hygiene routine when ashore there too.

    P&O Quick.

We had our tours brochure and luggage tickets very early for a cruise on Adonia in September, probably about 8 weeks before sailing. I know that we should be environmentally friendly and "go green" by printing off our own labels but I love receiving the personalized brochure. It's part of the holiday!
  10. What? No fancy dress? How will I manage as I wear my Wonder Woman costume permanently. Or perhaps I am the only one who can see it ?

To go or not to go to the Caribbean?

Martinique is a lovely island. If you are going here due to the changes, bear in mind that the currency is the Euro and it tends to be a little bit more expensive than most other Caribbean islands.

    P&O Cruises have sold Adonia!

Just got off Adonia this morning. It was very sad when the captain announced the sale of the ship to the passengers and crew. The crew have taken it very well, it seems that those with contracts beyond March are to be transferred to Britannia or Azura as they will be in the Caribbean at the time.

    Maltese VAT on Oceana cruises

Just returned from two weeks cruise on Oceana, sailing out of Malta. We had not realised that any cruise that sails from Malta and stays within the EU before returning to Malta must add 18% Maltese VAT to all on-board shop purchases and also cannot sell any duty free alcohol or tobacco that can be taken off the ship. So just an advance warning to anyone else booked on an Oceana fly cruise if you had planned to buy things like toiletries on-board instead of packing them in your hold baggage.

    The Aftermath of Hurricane Irma

I join with other forum members in feeling so sorry for the people of the wonderful Caribbean islands devastated by Hurricane Irma. Sadly, there may be worse to come with Hurricane Jose following on. I wonder if the cruise companies will help in any way e.g. by donating funds to reconstruction projects?

Adonias absence from 2019 cruise brochure

I certainly hope Adonia stays in the P and O fleet. I was disappointed to not see her mentioned in the 2019 brochure. I am sailing on her in about 10 days time and will be asking what is planned for the future.

    What is P&O Adonia like?

I love Adonia. Have sailed on her twice including a month in the Caribbean. We sail on her again later this month. She is a very friendly ship with great itineraries, always some little islands or ports that the bigger ships don't go to. Of course, being smaller means fewer facilities and limited entertainment options, but I think that this is offset by a more personal service and interesting ports.

We also take 3 suitcases if sailing from Southampton. Once you have unpacked in your cabin, push your cases under the bed. This saves space in your cabin. Enjoy your first cruise. Hopefully you will be hooked on cruising after your first one!

Adonia Returns To The P&O Cruises Fleet

Love the itineraries available on Adonia. Going on her in September. It will be interesting to see if there are many changes on the inside!

    Maltese VAT on Oceana cruises

The cruise we did visited Albania in the first week, which is outside the EU so that week was VAT free and we were also able to buy bottles of duty free alcohol on board even though we were staying on for the next week. It was our second week wholly within the EU when the Maltese VAT was added.

Increased bar prices on P and O

Bar prices were increased on Oceana on 25th May and we were told that prices will increase on all ships when the current cruise ends. There are also changes to the range of drinks with some new choices and others withdrawn. The cost of a pint seems to have been increased by about 20p.
  21. We always put down a future cruise deposit with P and O, but of course you have to be sure that you will want to cruise with the same cruise company in the near future. If you choose to do this, you are getting a great investment. Where else can you get 100 percent or more return on your money in just a year or so? There is a risk that you have to cancel your cruise and you may lose some deposit money if your insurance doesn't cover it, but that would be true even if you haven't used a FCD.

    Oceana or Azura?

I say go for the itinerary that you prefer. Both ships have their merits. We are going on one of the Mediterranean cruises on Oceana next month and although we know the ship is older and the cabin smaller than Azura, there are very few sea days so should be spending most of our time ashore or on deck. The Canaries cruise on Azura will have more sea days and possibly some of those in poor weather, so you might appreciation the extra space and facilities. I like both ships for different reasons. The important thing is that you have a great time whatever you choose!

What to do in Stockholm / Helsinki / Oslo

I would recommend local currency in Norway and Sweden, if for nothing else so that you can use the toilets. Free toilets are very difficult to find in the cities you are visiting.

    Azura Christmas/New Year Cruise 2016/17

I can't believe that Jack Sparrow and I were on the same cruise on Azura over Christmas and New year. We ate in the MDR most nights and didn't have a meal we didn't enjoy. Yes, the entertainment was not outstanding, but most evenings there were two or three things to choose from and on sea days I thought the entertainment team worked their socks off with a range of events. Missing two ports was disappointing, but we ended up with almost three full days in New Orleans instead which thought was a bonus.

    Caribbean Flight Upgrade

If you don't pay to select your seat you could find you are seated away from your travelling companion. This happened in December in the premium cabin when one couple found that one was at the front of the cabin and the other at the back!
