We had our tours brochure and luggage tickets very early for a cruise on Adonia in September, probably about 8 weeks before sailing. I know that we should be environmentally friendly and "go green" by printing off our own labels but I love receiving the personalized brochure. It's part of the holiday!

What? No fancy dress? How will I manage as I wear my Wonder Woman costume permanently. Or perhaps I am the only one who can see it ?

I join with other forum members in feeling so sorry for the people of the wonderful Caribbean islands devastated by Hurricane Irma. Sadly, there may be worse to come with Hurricane Jose following on.
I wonder if the cruise companies will help in any way e.g. by donating funds to reconstruction projects?

So the moral of the story is stick with the coach company used by the cruise company or, if travelling by car, CPS! We might try to save a little cash but if things go wrong the savings are nothing compared to the enjoyment of the cruise,

Hi  There is no right or wrong answer to this question, it all depends upon what you expect from a cruise.   Without doubt the cost of undertaking a cruise has fallen significantly since Carnival took over from P&O and I doubt whether P&O would have invested heavily in modern new build vessels.  On the downside the quality of the product has declined.  If the major factor for choosing a cruise is the ports visited these have not changed greatly but the large vessels cannot access smaller ports meaning that itineraries are less varied.  So in conclusion it depends what you consider more important a cheap mass market voyage or a more refined experience.   On a personal level I no longer sail with P&O, I prefer an more refined imitate cruise experience and this company no longer caters for my tastes.

It will indeed mean an end to that allowance unless we can negotiate a deal to keep us part of the single market which would no doubt be costly. Will also mean longer queues at immigration entry desks too I guess. I worry about the general consequences of this decision and impact on our cross border business but hey I forgot I`m supposed to shut up and accept financial loss, impairment of job opportunities for my children and god knows what else for "getting back control " that in my eyes we never lost on any significant issues.

    Dear Forum Members

I just wanted to take a few moments to address some of the recent issues you are experiencing and explain why we have made these changes to our website and forum.

Unfortunately, around 7 weeks ago our development agency informed us that we had 30 days to move our services elsewhere, as they were leaving the cruise market altogether.

Within this short timeframe, we had to locate and speak with new developers, build a new cruise website and migrate our forum and its contents to another web server. This was a formidable task, which under normal circumstances we would allow at least 9 months to plan, design and implement. To add to our complications, the forum software wasn't the latest version and had to be upgraded to a current version to enable the transfer of data to take place.

Against all the odds, we were able to launch a new website and forum by midday on the actual day of cessation.

As you can imagine, we have a significant number of bugs on both the main website and forum which require resolution. We are prioritising these as best we can, but this will not be a short process and I ask that you bear with us as we manage our way through this process over the coming weeks.

In the meantime, our administration team would welcome any feedback on problems you encounter in order that these can be resolved.
    Regards
    Michael Wilson
    Managing Director

If you go onto your cruise personaliser and click on the tab for flights, then the button to book seats you will see the plane configuration, which should indicate if it is a Dreamliner or a 767. You don't have to book a seat if you don't want to and just use the back button to come out of that part of the personaliser.

Fantastic news! I know that the small size of the ship means she lacks the range of on-board facilities but she does go to some lovely little and otherwise inaccessible ports of call.

We cruised on Ventura in May just after the gratuities had increased to£5.50 per day. We were on-board for 12 nights and were charged accordingly, not for 13 days. We are on a 6 night cruise in September and expect to pay£33. If it's any more I will put a post on this forum.

littlemousa got a reaction from Stamford in Service Charges
We have been informed that the service charge (or tips) has just been raised from £5 per day to £5.50 per day on P&O ships from 1st May 2016. This is a 10% increase. I don't mind the fact that this has been increased, but I am concerned about the lack of prior notice (we go on our next cruise in a few days time.) I know that we can opt out of tipping via the bill and reward directly: this would not make any difference to what we would give to the steward, waiters etc. Fortunately, our cruise is a relatively short one, but larger families on longer cruises could be facing an extra bill of £30 to £40 which they may not have budgeted for.

Welcome to the forum. The best thing to do is wear clothes that you feel good in. The line between casual and semi formal has become increasingly blurred. Just wear the same as you would for a nice night out at home and you won't regret it.

littlemousa got a reaction from Captain Kidd II in Where Do You Stick Your Loyalty Pin?
When we did our last cruise we had been "promoted" to the next tier. No new pins were waiting for us in our cabin. Needless to say we didn't complain! I have seen a few men in the top tier wearing their pins at the loyalty events. I don't think it is the sort of thing that we ladies would want to wear anyway. I agree with others that the pins are a waste of money.

Members of the Civil service pensioners alliance can also get discounts or extra OBC with certain Carnival group cruises. They also offer brilliant travel insurance with no requirement to disclose existing medical conditions. My sister in law who used to work for the old GPO also found out that she could benefit from this too. So if you are a retired "public servant" of any kind - fire, dust bin operative, or NHS etc it would be worth checking if there is a retired " club" you can join that offers cruise discounts.

I am a retired registrar and my number one piece of advice to anyone marrying on board ship or abroad is to ask for and pay for an extra copy or two of the marriage certificate as it is much more difficult to get one than if you marry in this country. You never know when you need an extra one. Also you can get married in a register office here for around £200. You don't have to marry in the local one and some are in lovely historic buildings. By my calculations that leaves around £24000 for the party and the honeymoon cruise!

Last year we sailed on P&O's Adonia to France and Iberia for 16 nights. As a small ship it went to ports most of the others don't go to, such as San Sebastian and Portimao. She also sailed up the rivers to Bordeaux and Seville and stayed overnight in both. No more than one sea day at a time so no risk of a shortage of things to do aboard. I'm sure a similar cruise will be offered in 2016.
