Hi  I don't moan about P&O cruises after many enjoyable vacations with this company.  I no longer consider booking a cruise with this company.  It's a personal decision and many have different views (each to their own) but I believe that there are many cruise lines offering a better cruise experience for a similar boarding fare.

It is essential that all parents are fined for keeping children away from school.  Many of the comments are about children of above aptitude who may not be harmed but this is a selfish attitude.  People should recognise that those of lower ability need all the input available to help them and if it became acceptable for parents to keep children off school then it is inevitable that some youngsters will be harmed.
You may not like it but if you want to keep them off school stop whinging, and pay up - those are the rules.

Who should the parents fine when the head closes the school on a whim because a snow flake is falling or they go on strike because they are on ever so poor wages. Equally if the pay is that poor go find a job elsewhere.

I would never consider taking them off, unless they were rude  , after all there is no extra added to the drinks on PO as is on RCI 18% and high tips Celebrity , and also NCL to mention a few.
I think they work so hard they deserve them why go through the bother of taking them off then you have to  find another means of paying them.CG

It should not apply  only  to those pensioners  receiving credits there should be a  reasonable cut off point for the £200 fuel allowance, not everyone was able to retire on a good pension many  through no fault of their own.
A pensioner who is just above the  line where he could receive theses credits is struggling  and to take the £2oo away would probably sink him so lets. be fair.
As regards the triple lock again these small increases have allowed those again in between not able to claim credits and just managing  to keep their heads above water, also the bus passes  unless you live in London where you can get free travel by bus or rail in rural areas these   give some a lifeline   to get to shops and banks. and company.

Someone also mentioned stopping free prescriptions for OAP'S why?  the people who rely on them now are old and retired and have paid in and not claimed them most of their working life so surely their entitled the rich won't claim as they have private insurance  neither do they uses bus passes,  we are the only country in the UK who are not entitled to free prescriptions why?
I visit a lot of older people and I know they are struggling because they are above the credits level this needs serious thought before taking away these benefits.

Majority of cruise lines do allow you to opt out or adjust to an amount you feel valid. To my mind when you opt out then you are effecting the rest of the staff who make your cruise pleasurable, given you accept the principle of auto gratuity being shared to those direct and indirect. If it  is one person giving you grief you have the option of speaking to them directly , their manager so they have an opportunity to improve which I gather is your goal. The final way is to write a note about this person during the trip or the final report ,, Course a report like this can ruin their career. Staff can only respond to a complaint during the cruise not afterwards so all facts are known

I have paid significant amounts by means of NI and tax during my working life as well as pension contributions to my private pension. I now pay tax on my pension  so why should I not be able to have a few perks as a form of gratuity from the government for all my hard work and contributions made to thise less fortuate than me?
Long live pensioner benefits, that is what I say!

I'd not seen this no but I do agree with it. We all know it's a pain, especially for passengers that have been through it many times before but it's still important, much like you wouldn't expect to board a flight without seeing a safety drill before you take off. People need to just accept that it's done for their safety, it doesn't take all that long. Just attend and then move on.
I agree with P&O doing this because it puts safety first and stops ignorance getting in the way.

After the cancellation with RCI and their ridicules prices  I booked a 7 day cruise on the Azura for 4 of us in April 18 , the prices were good and we have free parking  , we picked our own cabin and freedom dining and the prices for booking over  year in advance is hardly any difference from this year.
I did this with the early booking offer [select] and to make sure the children secured a place this time. Now I can sit back and relax. CG

Sorry Della but I cannot agree. If a person wants to do something they will and that includes giving up smoking. I wanted to give up 14 years ago and did. I simply started one Monday morning and said to myself 'I don't smoke anymore' so I am not asking anyone to do something which I haven't. I am not 'Holier than thou' but do believe that I should be able to protect myself from those who endanger my health. Lets be clear on this, smoking kills, even the manufacturers put it on the packets. If a person who smokes decides to take that course of action then please give me a sane reason why they should be allowed to do the same to me by causing 'Passive Smoking'. Cruise lines like airlines, realise this and are potecting their passengers and I whole heartily agree with them as do others.

I tend to agree with you that a drunk can be obnoxious but so can a smoker smelling like an ashtray. I've come across many an smoker in a ship's lift but very few obnoxious drunks. Also - when a drunk leaves a lift all is well. When an ashtray smelling smoker leaves a lift the obnoxious smell lingers.

Exposing skin to sun damage is something that is well know in this day and age. Unfortunately it was virtually unheard of when I was a child. On holiday my mother used to "Protect" my skin with Nivea not knowing that was one of the worst things to do. We used to get sunburn and think nothing of it as parents used to treat it with Calamine Lotion. Wish I knew then what I know now as it may have saved me from having 12 lots of skin cancer removed in the last 18 months one of which was found to be malignant but luckily they got it all out. Now I use a minimum of factor 20 and wear a hat or baseball cap. Food for thought for those that still like to roast in the sun every day.

Personally (as I can only speak for me) I voted the way I did, despite the knowledge that the rest of the EU would try make life more difficult for us (see today's press with their petty comments about air traffic control and other hold ups in ports/borders) .   I believe that all of this is a price worth paying for our freedom our self government and our security.
If the EU bureaucrats are this petty in public, can we imagine just how petty/vindictive/any other word you can think of, that they are and have been to anyone/country who doesn't fit their mould in the past 30 or so years when the EU project has ballooned out of all proportion?
I might be a little lighter in the pocket, but a price worth paying to have freedoms that currently don't exist.

Personally I don't think anyone was conned into anything. Both sides were less than honest in their assertions of what would happen. Yes, some items have increased because of Brexit but others have risen as they do every year. The lower currency has created thousands of jobs for those that were unemployed and who now enjoy a better standard of living. Our exports have risen to a level not seen for years. Lower interest rates have assisted in more people getting on the housing ladder. If you look at the finance charts it can be seen that the £Pound is on the rise albeit slowly. The FTSE reached it's highest level ever and the top 100 are mainly British companies that are quoted in £Pounds. It's not all doom and gloom. Lets try and look at the good things as well as those not so good, it certainly gives a truer outlook.

I voted to leave the EU, fully understanding it would not be an easy "Divorce" but believing it was better in the long term for the UK.
Who took any notice of that Buffoon Bo Jo ,We were not all thick and gullible ?
Cameron who'es ambitions exceeded his abilities thought he had come back from the EU with a good deal  ,and foolishly put it to the vote,  Promptly resigning  when his project fear did not work??
The Eu have remained Adamant that free movement of Labour and the Scum from the Eu must prevail. A Rule set 60 years ago and IMO not appropriate in today's climate. If they had conceded that all the nation within the EU could regulate the flow of immigration within the EU then we may have had a different result .But being right matters more than being sensible to some Eu Commissioners. .....Davybe

Just returned from a cruise on the Norwegian Sprit.   My first cruise with this Line.  The cruise was very good and I have np problems with the staff, meals or organisation but I find that the 18% Gratuity  (service charge)  added onto each item  - other than the Complimentary Items - is outrageous.  It makes everything expensive when the VAT is also added.  I am not against a small service charge for the people involved -  5% or 10% -  for them to take a top off a bottle of beer or pour an Orange Juice into a glass.  This system should be reviewed and made more customer friendly
One can say the Cruise was great with a bad taste service charge in the pocket

Most ships have a problem regarding sun beds by the pool ,there will never be enough room for us all.
I can let you know what it's like  in April after we have sailed on her.
P&O being the biggest cruise provider from the UK will attract more complaints from people who just love to find fault and moan,Some folk see to go on holiday to look for problems and then tell the world about it.
I am going with an open mind ,and looking forwards to a good cruise on a new to me ship and hoping things are not as bad as some people say? We have friends who sailed on her and loved it ,no complaints from them at all.....Davybe

I have booked a cruise with PO for next April 2018, I saw no difference in the prices in fact they were  on par with what  I had previously  paid  and this is during the Easter holidays.
I agree with OWT  regarding the insurance your EHIC card should never be used as you insurance cover you should always have proper insurance cover especially at sea, after all most of us when we fill in the forms have to give the name of the insurance provider EHIC is just a backup.

It seems that Brexit is being used in many cases as an excuse to raise prices when the actual costs may not have risen at all. Most ships leaving Southampton or indeed any other UK port usually stock up with everything from fuel to provisions here in the UK. What may be more expensive are port charges because of fluctuating exchange rates. Fuel is actually still cheaper than it was 5 years ago so there should have been a decrease in fares but was there? No there wasn't.
As far as the EHIC card is concerned that I would suggest is irrelevant to anyone travelling on a cruise. It is not accepted on the ship and certainly does not cover medical evacuation or repatriation and in many countries that do not have a national health system as we do it is also useless which is why the cruise companies insist on passengers having travel insurance. Pricing is always a one way thing, always up, never down.
As an example last November Egypt floated its currency and overnight it went from 10.5 EGP to the £Pound to 22 EGP to the £Pound, currently 19.8 EGP to the £Pound. Did we see any reduction in the cost of holidays to Egypt? No, the prices remained the same allowing the holiday companies to make huge profits. Did we see a reduction in airline fares from those flying to Egypt where they could now refuel at half the price? No of course not.
    Rant over.
