    Steward Standards

Having recently returned from the Canaries on Britannia, I couldn’t fault my Cabin Steward, he always seemed to be one step ahead of me and kept the cabin spotless, plus cleanliness throughout the ship was to a high standard. I did have a survey form mid way through the cruise asking if and how they could make my cruise any better. Had I have had any issue I would have raised it at the time with the relevant department.

    P & O going down hill

Thoroughly enjoyed my recent cruise to the Canaries on Britannia, reading varying reviews I was pleasantly surprised with the ship and would certainly cruise on her again. My disembarkation experience was different to some of the other forum members. After waiting in the dining room to leave the ship at 8.15, we were asked to proceed to the gangway and baggage collection where I found my cases without any problem (they are brightly coloured)! Walking through Customs there were a number of Police and one sniffer dog, by 8.45 I was sitting on the Eavesway coach - all going very well .... Our coach made its way to the dock gates where passengers from Azura were due to join us for their journey home. Waiting on the coach for over an hour for them to arrive, we were informed there was a problem with their disembarkation (this has been covered elsewhere on the forum). Hopefully when I cruise on her next year they will be more organised.

    Azura Better than expected.

Your first cruise will be extra special, the one you’ll remember with much affection. Go and enjoy yourselves, not having anything to compare with means you’ll be able to form your own opinion. Look forward to reading your positive or negative feedback when you return. Just a word of caution .... cruising is addictive 😂😂

    Room comparisons on P+O

Thoroughly enjoyed my cruise. I hope you have the same experience should you decide to sail on Britannia.

    Azura Better than expected.

I'm due to sail on Azura for the first time after her refurb in April, taking in four ports I haven't visited before. Sailing from Southampton means repeating many ports, so I tend to choose my cruises by itinerary and not by ship or cruise line. I always try to travel with an open mind and as 'Davybe' mentioned 'Marmite' .... it wouldn't do for us all to like the same cruises and ships. My experience sailing on Ventura three years ago to the Greek Isles, was a relaxed happy ship with pleasant staff and good entertainment. Hope you have the same experience 'Countrygirl' - I have yet to try Arcadia.

    Azura Better than expected.

Thanks Davyb for your thoughts on Azura, I'm due to sail on her for the first time next year to the Med. Disembarkation from Britannia a the weekend was very efficient, we thought there may have been a problem on Azura as we had to wait 50 minutes on our coach for some of her passengers to join us. Hope the same Azura turns up for us both next year.

    Room comparisons on P+O

Having returned from my first cruise on Britannia at the weekend, I agree with sinbad10 a beautiful ship. Balconies are small compared with other ships, my cabin was Port side on F deck midship and found the balcony adequate for one person - Personally I feel two adults and two Children would be very cramped. Azura and Ventura have spacious extended balconies on C deck (my favourite deck) which are part shaded and part open, they will accommodate four people comfortably. Hope you find your ideal cabin, and cruise.

    Speciality Restaurants

Not only on P&O sinbad10, I know of people who regularly cruise with Cunard and Princess who will not pay any extra for tea or coffee when it's available FOC in the buffet .... each to their own, I enjoy my speciality coffees and will continue to pay for them.

No snow, an exceptionally heavy frost overnight in Stafford. Lake frozen over at Trentham Gardens, the ducks weren't happy 😂

I''m also on this cruise, having been to the Canaries on two previous cruises, I'm Interested to see suggestions other members come up with. Depending on your interests, most ports are easily accessible and taxis are in abundance. Madeira : Funchal is a pleasant and easy to walk around, with HoHo buses normally operating two routes. There's also the cable car which goes to Monte and the tropical gardens, you could always travel back down by toboggan. or maybe a visit the famous botanical gardens. I'm looking at taking a tuk tuk as JenJen as mentioned. LaPalma : Another easy walkable and less commercialised port. When I last visited there was a trolley bus operating, giving a whistle stop tour leaving plenty of free time to explore the town at leisure. Tenerife: I went on the ships excursion around the Island taking in the Orchid Gardens. Like you I'm looking for suggestions for this port. Gran Canaria : An easy walk around the town and then onto the sandy beach is a pleasant option. Having limited time and wanting to visit both Maspalomas and Puerto de Mogan I took the safe option choosing the ships excursion. Lanzarote: Full day excursion enabled me to visit Timanfaya national park (amazing landscape) Jameos del Agua (cave system) and Mirador del Rio (viewpoint & Cafe' embedded in cliff top). Lisbon: Suggestions please .... I took the HoHo bus but don't feel it did the City justice being stuck in traffic for most of the route. I also use the website www.whatsinport.com which provides information for most cruise ports. Hope you're able to use some of the ideas for your port days. Onboard port talks may also provide further options more to your liking. Whatever you choose .... enjoy.

    Princess cruises from UK

My very first cruise was taken on Grand Princess around the Med from Southampton & I was hooked! Having had enjoyable cruises with P&O plus Royal Caribbean, Princess are still my preferred choice of cruise line. In my experience service in all areas has been exceptional, the cabin stewards always seem to be one step ahead and address you by your name (not 'Sir orMadam'). Bar staff remember your coffee / drinks preferences, plus waiters are attentive without being intrusive. Food in the MDR & buffet has been of a high standard with plenty of choice. Entertainment is varied in different venues and caters for most passengers tastes. Onboard the atmosphere always appears happy and comfortable, the atrium being the hub and is always buzzing. Good mixture of formal & smart casual evenings to suit everyone. I've always found a mixture of ages and nationalities who are travelling to enjoy their cruise experience. I will certainly be looking at their itineries and prices. 😎

    Flintstone

Unfortunately I've not had any personal experience of Gothenburg. In the past I have found .... www.whatsinport.com .... very useful regarding port terminals / transport etc. Hope this is of help to you.

    one sleep to go... lol

Understand totally, I'm in the same position & does prove very stressful. Always check I've got passport, boarding pass & credit card - Once I've locked my case I know I can work around anything I may have overlooked. Doesn't stop me worrying though!

    one sleep to go... lol

I'll give you a wave at the Port tomorrow Mitch, I'm on Independence of the Seas for five days. First time with with RC and certainly the largest ship I've sailed on - going with an open mind, just fancied the itinerary. Enjoy your cruise, look forward to reading your posts over the next month. I'll be checking & double checking in the morning. 🚽🔑

Packing why is it so stressful

Thanks for the ironing board tip, so simple but something I'd never thought about.

Packing why is it so stressful

We're not brave Jenjen, I'm afraid we just don't have a choice if we want to take holidays. Fortunately I find cruising a safe option when travelling Solo. My first ever cruise was to the Canaries the year after my Husband died, since then I've made and retained many friendships from that cruise and subsequent cruises over the last six years. Life's too short to worry about dark knickers 😂 enjoy your holiday 😎

    Using your Mobile.

Traveling solo my family do ask me to use my phone to keep in touch, letting them know I've arrived safely onboard, also giving them peace of mind should any problems arise. I only use my phone on Port days, having coffee using the free WiFi to WhatsApp home with updates. One exception was: Couple of days into a 17 day cruise on Ventura I had issues regarding my cabin, which reception staff were unable or unwilling to sort out, exasperated I decided to e.mail P&O head office with my concerns. Within 24 hours I had been contacted by the Hotel Manager, moved cabins, nice bottle of wine delivered and £'s credited to my account. This action was out of character for me, normally preferring to complement and give positive feedback where appropriate. My phone came in handy that day!

    Cruise Travel insurance

I've used 'Just travel' insurance based in Sunderland for the last few years. Offering various levels of cruise cover. I renewed mine this morning, the policy I have chosen is underwritten by Lloyds. www.justtravelcover.com Tel: 08009882830

    Ripped off in Venice.

Four years ago visiting Venice on a Princess cruise, being mindful of the extortionate prices being charged In the popular tourist areas I wandered into the Museum, which was a good move as I was surprised to find a Cafe' on the first floor. Noticing most of the customers appeared to be locals I ordered a Pannini with salad plus a cappuccino and then found a table by the window overlooking St. Mark's Square ........ all this and change from €15 - bargain ! Museum - top right hand corner of the attached photo.
