Cruised Princess and P&O many times and have never been disappointed with food served on Princess whether it be quality or portion size. It is obvious P&O is aimed at British  market and serve mainly British food but that is what we like about Princess the variation of food served.

My suitcases are 29cm deep, I was able to store them closed under the bed recently on Britannia. Possibly leaving the cases open to reduce the depth would be an option if they’re a tight fit.

Having returned from my first cruise on Britannia at the weekend, I agree with sinbad10 a beautiful ship.
Balconies are small compared with other ships, my cabin was Port side on F deck midship and found the balcony adequate for one person - Personally I feel two adults and two Children would be very cramped.
Azura and Ventura have spacious extended balconies on C deck (my favourite deck) which are part shaded and part open, they will accommodate four people comfortably.
Hope you find your ideal cabin, and cruise.

Thanks Davyb for your thoughts on Azura, I'm due to sail on her for the first time next year to the Med.
Disembarkation from Britannia a the weekend was very efficient, we thought there may have been a problem on Azura as we had to wait 50 minutes on our coach for some of her passengers to join us.
Hope the same Azura turns up for us both next year.

There were issues on Britannia even from the early days that people  were going to the Grab n Go on port days and literally stripping it of all the sandwiches and wraps to take ashore which is not what it is intended for and dont blame P&O if they have stopped filling Grab n Go on port days if that is what they are doing.

Exactly it. Dress doesn`t make the man or woman. Me? I dress smart to go out for dinner whether at home or on a ship but I don`t see the need to dress in an out of date dj and bow tie. Insistence on that is no more than snobbery and to be told if you don`t want to dress like that eat in the buffet is insulting. I`ve never been stopped by cruise staff re: my dress even when deciding to dress down from a DJ to a smart jacket/ shirt and tie so will eat anywhere I want to. I`d never eat out in a proper restaurant in shorts/ t-shirt and a baseball cap and would expect those dressed as such to be stopped and asked to eat elsewhere. If the are not then the cruiseline should dispense with the dress code and give it up.

Not only on P&O sinbad10, I know of people who regularly cruise with Cunard and Princess who will not pay any extra for tea or coffee when it's available FOC in the buffet .... each to their own, I enjoy my speciality coffees and will continue to pay for them.

I agree with all three I've never felt compelled to pay extra.
I've looked at several so called "speciality restaurant" menus and nothing encourages me to spend extra, infact I wouldn't pay the equivalent of $35pp at home let alone on a ship in which I've already paid.
Very rarely had a bad meal in the MDR so I'll stick to that.
    HLM.

I thought it was interesting washing, drying, and ironing 1000 pieces of bedding in an hour, amazing I know shows my mentality I’m  interested in the hospitality side, I have no experence in that area.
i could not cope in a ship that size but can marvel in the operation side just my personal opinion

TrentAnn reacted to Oldworldtraveller in Which Ship?Has that Wow factor?
Keeping to the original question of "Which ship has the wow factor' for me this is a difficult question as many of the new ships I have been on have a 'Wow' factor. I think however the one that comes top in this category is the Quantum Class of RCI. The pod that takes you 300ft above the ocean affording spectacular views, Spectres Cabaret, one of the best shows of its type I have seen at sea, the London/Broadway Shows featuring the original cast rather than an onboard group that do everything, restaurants like Wonderland, switching restaurants with the same wait staff for those on classic dining and a buffet area so large and with such choice it puts most to shame. Bathrooms with large glass cubicles and inside cabins with screens giving views and sounds as if it were a  balcony. Not my favourite ship but certainly a ship with the 'Wow" factor.

I''m also on this cruise, having been to the Canaries on two previous cruises, I'm Interested to see suggestions other members come up with.
Depending on your interests, most ports are easily accessible and taxis are in abundance.
Madeira : Funchal is a pleasant and easy to walk around, with HoHo buses normally operating two routes. There's also the cable car which goes to Monte and the tropical gardens, you could always travel back down by toboggan. or maybe a visit the famous botanical gardens. I'm looking at taking a tuk tuk as JenJen as mentioned.
LaPalma : Another easy walkable and less commercialised port. When I last visited there was a trolley bus operating, giving a whistle stop tour leaving plenty of free time to explore the town at leisure.
Tenerife: I went on the ships excursion around the Island taking in the Orchid Gardens. Like you I'm looking for suggestions for this port.
Gran Canaria : An easy walk around the town and then onto the sandy beach is a pleasant option. Having limited time and wanting to visit both Maspalomas and Puerto de Mogan I took the safe option choosing  the ships excursion.
Lanzarote: Full day excursion enabled me to visit Timanfaya national park (amazing landscape)  Jameos del Agua (cave system) and Mirador del Rio (viewpoint & Cafe' embedded in cliff top).
Lisbon: Suggestions please .... I took the HoHo bus but don't feel it did the City justice being stuck in traffic for most of the route.
I also use the website www.whatsinport.com which provides information for most cruise ports.
Hope you're able to use some of the ideas for your port days. Onboard port talks may also provide further options more to your liking.
    Whatever you choose .... enjoy.

Not sure what Butlins is like as I have never been to one. I have however been to other 'holiday camp/complexes and to me cruising on many ships is no more than a holiday camp/complex at sea as both offer very similar amenities both with their own advantages and disadvantages. I think we need to remember that with all the new ships coming on line over the next few years there is basically only one place the cruise lines are going to attract new customers from and that is those who currently frequent holiday complexes in the sun. These complexes offer in my personal experience very similar experiences to that of a modern cruise ship but with advantages. They don't charge extra for speciality restaurants, very seldom is there a problem finding sun beds, the rooms are much larger than cabins with walk in showers, good range of toiletries and usually have balconies, drinks if not inclusive are at sensible prices. Therefore to attract people away from these complexes the ships have to offer something similar. Time will tell.
