It is the same classic response when you honk poor driving and the offender suggests it is you that has the problem.

Fact is people in this country take criticism very very badly and tend to go on the offensive. My wife last week suggested a child should stop kicking a dog and his father appeared and said 'f*ck off b*tch' to my wife strongly suggesting where the child learned his poor behaviour from.

I applaud you commenting on this unacceptable demonstration of disrespect for other passengers.

Our friends have done P&O, Cunard and Thomson. They still rate Thomson the highest for overall enjoyment of their holiday.

I have yet to try them but after a week of faceaches last time we went on P&O I am sorely tempted.

We did our first inside this year and in truth it drove us bananas. No fresh air, no concept of the time of day and generally being like a  prisoner.

I think the benefit Mr Ahoythere is that we can all choose. If I want to go to dinner in a nice shirt and trousers but leave my jacket at home - Great. Equally if you want to continue to wear a jacket - Great. Win Win.

I think it is worryingly judgemental that you would be disappointed to have me next to you at dinner.

Hi OSH44 and welcome to the forum.
I think 'hundreds of people' is a bit of an exaggeration as so far only 185 have posted and some of those are in agreement with the doing away of 'Smart Casual'. It's always a touchy topic on cruise forums. P&O like many cruise lines are trying to attract a younger clientèle who don't want to dress up all the time. Holidays are for relaxing and many cruise lines have already done away with formal nights. Azamara have for example along with other top cruise lines changed to 'Country Casual' and it works well. I personally hate having to pack formal attire. Top London restaurants who provide true 5 star service and food don't ask you to wear formal wear so why on a ship when you are on holiday?
    Just my opinion.

My daughter was a ships photographer with P&O for 2.5 years - she is a professional photographer with a degree in photography which doesn't come cheap.  There are a few things you need to be aware of before criticising them so harshly
    1. They are  NOT employed by P&O but contracted from a company in Southampton - The Ships Photographer.
    2.  They are not on a salary but a low percentage of what they make per trip - My daughter did a 29 day  cruise over Christmas and New Year and earned £161 for the 29 days work - That worked out to £40.25 a week - a junior photographer earned even less.
    3.  They do not get tips
    4.  They work long hours taking, editing and printing your photographs to ensure all your photographs are to a high standard ready for the next day
    5. They are all qualified photographers who have undergone a rigorous recruiting process
    6. They are employed to provide a premium service which if you went down the high street would cost a lot more
    7. They also carry out one to one tutorials on photography, run camera clubs on board and produce videos

If you do not want your picture taken a simple polite NO is sufficient, there is no need to be rude as they are only doing there job or give a long winded excuse as to why you do not want your picture taken.  They enjoy interacting with the passengers and do not try to hard sell their work.  Their aim is to provide you with a professional service that give you quality memories of a special holiday.

We saw 4tunes in April. They were top notch entertainment yet there were still people in the audience who really looked like they didn't want to be there.

No way. Someone once summed the potential effects of a public lottery win up thus:

'Walk into your local and buy everyone a drink you are a flash b-td. Walk into your local and don't buy everyone a drink you are a tight b-td'

It's a funny old world but I do smile. People pay thousands of bucks for a cruise then scrimp on saving for a decent hotel.

Hi  I have myself vistited Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland (I don't think you can get a more profound or horriifc loss of life).  I certainly didn't find the trip uplifting but felt a sad loss but hoped that the world would have lost it's appettite for ethnic cleansing (unfortunately this isn't so).  I see no reason why those people who inspect the wreckage shouldn't do so if they pay their respects to those who perished.

The problem with killing yourselves in the comfort of a nice lounge bar usually means the discomfort of others. I'm afraid you got it right when you said "or should I say outcast!!"   It's outside in the wind and rain for you I'm afraid.

I have always just paid the tips plus left a bit if service has been over and above. However, I would prefer just to pay the whole lot in the fare and forget about it before the holiday

I think I'm correct in saying that on the cruise lines I use most, P&O, Cunard and Celebrity, the waiter goes around the table with a jug of iced water. I never drink the stuff personally - I prefer a glass of wine  .

Naples is a filthy, thief infested dump of a city.  This year, In 4 encounters with locals ( 2 x taxis and 2 others) all tried to rip me off by either overcharging or short-changing. Two years ago it was similar (one of my children was charged €15 for something with a price tag of €2.99 on it - when challenged the woman shrugged and pretended not to understand) All coincidence? I don't think so.

It's a shame, since there are some lovely places to visit from Naples.
