Road Works In Southampton

Recommended Posts

I have read many reviews that there's road works going on close to the cruise terminals in Southampton , causing major delays in and out. I am joining the oriana on the 13th june 14 at gate 4 , there will be 2 other ships in that day. Has anyone had any problems with traffic around that area.

Yes it is well documented in this and other forums that they are changing the road layout to a dual carriageway outside gate 4 which can lead to delays in embarking and disembarking. As of March there were no other road works along the main road to all other dock gates.

Which terminal was that Panthersnotts… We are disembarking at Mayflower but getting on at Ocean…

You might have delays embarking at Ocean because the roadworks are right outside gate 4 but Mayflower is not affected by these roadworks for disembarking.

As a matter of interest I walked along Pilgrim Road (that's the main road outside Dock Gate 4 and Ocean terminal).

The actual roadworks including the dual carriageway are almost complete. The site information notice board says the road works will run till Spring 2014.

One part of the scheme will restrict entry only  to the Ocean and QEII Terminals via Dock Gate 4, a separate exit point being part of the scheme.

Members may find the following document of interest...

Whichever way one looks at it the intention has been to improve  access to the above two terminals.

The fact that the majority of the works have been carried out over the winter when cruise disruption was considered to be at a minimum should be applauded.

Left on Oceana on 5th April through dock gate 4 arrived back on 19th April through dock gate 10. Didn't notice any roadworks!!

You must have had your eyes shut then :D because the road right outside dock gate 4 is being turned into a dual carriageway and that is what is causing the problem on occasions but the roadworks do not affect gate 10.

We arrived at the Ocean terminal on the 25th March to cruise on the Oriana, and we arrived back on the 18th April. There are road works around that area, but it didn't hold us up much at all. We got off the ship at around 9.25am and were well on the way out of the car park by 9.45am. :)
