Catching up with my post I turned to the latest copy of 'VISTA': the magazine for members of Celebrity's Captain's Club.

On page 5 under 'Latest Celebrity News' is an article welcoming Kate McCue aboard Celebrity Summit as she not only becomes the first woman captain to captain a Celebrity cruise ship, but the world's  first American woman to Captain any cruise ship.

Why did I make a double take at this?

Well I have always been amused by the fact that on all the Celebrity ships i have sailed on (4) the captains have all been Greek: as have the majority of the ship's deck and engineering officers.

So much so that i have on two occasions asked the question, why all Greek on an American cruise line.

The answer has been the same on both occasions. When Royal caribbean bought the Celebrity cruise line it was under Greek ownership and part of the deal was to employ Greek officers.

Has that initial deal expired with this new event?

Just interested.

Also interesting, It is good to know that people can rise through the ranks to lead their own ship, rather than a University Graduate with no previous experience.

Good Luck to her

Couldn't agree more Cruise Chef.

Personal experience and all that.
