Do You Trust Your Agent? Dispatches

Recommended Posts

Agency “Flight Centre” found itself at the centre of an investigation by Chanel 4’s Dispatches.  The program which aired last night April 25th, highlighted some very disturbing practises used to sell flight seats.  I have never used the company in question, but its only fare to point out from experience this is rare.  I’ve been stung in the past with hidden charges which is why I now just use Specialist Agents like Bolsover.  They don’t mark up any prices and what they charge is governed by the operators in question.  I know this from my other half making me do extensive research before he cracks open the safe that is his wallet, and I'm pleased their administration is very transparent you always get a copy of the operators invoice with Bolsover’s.

I've had this issue with thomas cook as I've said recently on another thread. I genuinely found booking with them to be similar to how I perceive booking a Ryanair flight would be. First comes the holiday, you think your done, then little by little subtle extras keep coming into the equation, before you know it, the "amazing" price you've been offered to beat other agents you've spoken to turns out not to be cheaper at all, in fact it's more. Booking fees and administration fees drive me mad. I've been stung a few times with travel agents where you get a good price, you want to go ahead and book, you go through all the spiel of being happy with everything etc and then right at the end, after you've been on the phone or face to face for well over an hour, you get the "Ok, that's all sorted for you, I just need to take a deposit from you and the £20pp booking fee", I'm sorry, booking fee?? I'm now being charged to book something with you?? No thanks, not for me. They assume that after you've gone through all the rigmarole of the booking process you'll just say "oh go on then, just do it". I'm guilty of saying that myself in the past before I knew better.

I agree with the comments above. This is why I now book with people I trust. Bolsover are certainly one of those and I rate their service very highly and the open policy when it comes to pricing. There are no hidden fees which drive me mad.

you do find when shopping around companies will look like they are cheaper but then once you have booked they charge extra for the admin and any tickets issued, where as I know Bolsover don't charge any extra for this.

There is one particular cruise TA who are all over Sky TV on a daily basis but the inaccurate information given out about ships that we have been on would not trust them to book a cruise on a ship or cruise line I had never used before. When commented to them about their inaccuracies on their Facebook page the response was not to answer me but just block me and they or one particular presenter is still giving out wrong information.

This kind of thing drives me mad. For many of us on this forum we would know that the information their giving out is wrong but for anyone who has never cruised before, they could quite easily listen to the advice given out on these types of shows and book a holiday that they may deeply regret on it.

It's wrong that they are continuously allowed to give out incorrect information and it's even worse that they simply blocked you from their facebook page just for passing comment on the fact that they were doing this. I think I know the channel on sky that you mean.
