2torts 334 Report post Posted April 4, 2017 I know we don't know each other but there are certain contributors whose comments I look forward to reading. So unless I've missed a topic does anyone know what's happened to Terminator. I for one miss his take on things. 1 dancefloordemon reacted to this

Hi 2torts, I'd been thinking the same thing but wasn't sure if it was good forum etiquette to ask, I know on other forums it's frowned upon for some reason. But like you I miss his unique sense of humour, hopefully alls well and he's just taking a break and to quote Jinky "he'll be back" soon. HLM. PS, looking back I notice he did have some reservations about the new look forum, and did say he may stay away for a while Edited April 4, 2017 by HLM 1 2torts reacted to this
Oldworldtraveller 2163 Report post Posted April 4, 2017 Terminator is not the only one. What happened to Wheels36, RobBar, Ron, Jaguar1, Harvey and many others that used to be regular posters but now rarely appear if at all. It does seem that quite a few disappeared at the time the forum changed it's appearance. Others went at the time of various 'disagreements'. If you look at the majority of 'specialist' forums they start off busy and then either the posters become bored move on or they become forums for games and other posts that have nothing to do with the speciality. Luckily the forum I am a moderator on deals in all forms of travel so we don't have the problem. 1 vamp23 reacted to this
sammy sun 1084 Report post Posted April 4, 2017 It's a shame to see that these members no longer appear much on the forum. I always enjoyed their contributions. I agree that the design change was probably a contributor to this because it did take a little while for me to get used to the changes but I've sine got used to it. I wonder whether the 'disagreements' mentioned by OWT above where perhaps the catalyst behind it.

Not sure how many more cruises I`ll be doing as only got 2/3 more in mind but interested in land travel

I no longer post only browse though, as unlike this forum it was very clicky and if you dared disagree with the clique you'd be chastised. The Seven Seas 147 Report post Posted April 5, 2017 I browse at a few other cruise/travel forums from time to time but I generally find that most of them are full of 'games' or posts that aren't really relevant to travel/cruising. This forum doesn't really seem to have that problem and there tends to be a great mix of topics from reviews, advice, what to do when in port etc. It is a shame to see that a few forum members no longer post and there could be a number of reasons as to why this, but perhaps the 'disagreements' were one of the reasons why these members no longer use the forum. 1 HLM reacted to this
cruise chef 864 Report post Posted April 5, 2017 Like other members I too miss the contributions from Wheels36, RobBar, Ron, Jaguar1, Harvey and it would be great to see them back
sammy sun 1084 Report post Posted April 5, 2017 I agree with Seven Seas on the comments made about certain other forums. I too visit other forums but I stopped contributing on two I was active on because of the constant drivel on there. I don't mind off topic conversations from time to time, it's often interesting but one forum in particular became filled with conversations more akin to what happened in Coronation Street the night before rather than anything cruise or travel related. It's fine every once in a while but when it consumes your content feed, it can be frustrating when trying to find topics that you originally signed up to view and discuss. 2 pennbank and HLM reacted to this
The Seven Seas 147 Report post Posted April 5, 2017 From time to time the slightly off topics are fine, but I'm glad that this forum hasn't gone the way that some of the others have. Maybe the posters mentioned above will appear back on the forum from time to time and join in any topics that they are interested in.

beartoes 5 Report post Posted April 5, 2017 i always found solent Richards posts good to read, but he seemedf to have offended people for some reason that was never clear...i see him on other forums and website and is still doing very detailed reviews and blogs i enjoy reading
Tally 390 Report post Posted April 5, 2017 We do seem to have lost quite a few of the regular posters. I know I didn't like the new style forum but I am getting used to it. Surely that can't be the only reason people have disappeared. If people aren't allowed on there must be a very good reason for that.

loz6 136 Report post Posted April 6, 2017 I had noticed a few people had 'disappeared' which is a shame as they made some really interesting contributions. I have had no issue with the new forum layout which may be a reason for some of the disappearences but people don't like change but hopefuly they will venture back! RayO 148 Report post Posted April 6, 2017 My own theory is that eventually people just get fed-up with the same old same old. I have not contributed much recently after my wife died, but also because there is only so many times you can answer the same questions. I admire those who can answer the numerous repeated questions again and again, but I do not have the patience to do that. For example there was a post that I gave a detailed personal response to about the problems of being a solo/single traveller. A couple of days later rather than expand on the original debate someone posted a brand new topic with virtually the same questions as on the previous topic. By doing that I believe that it diminished mine and other peoples contributions to the original post. I could not be bothered repeating myself so did not contribute. I believe that this happens all over the forum. I look in as a guest every couple of days and if it's the same old same old then I do not bother contributing. I accept that newbies will want there own personal response, but I am not the one to repeatedly give it. I do find the one post moaners amusing though. They bother to register, post there moan about something, get some sympathetic responses but never post again even to expand on their original post. Each to there own I suppose. I too miss Terminator's pithy one liners. RayO 6 DavidH, Oldworldtraveller, sammy sun and 3 others reacted to this
Furby 441 Report post Posted April 6, 2017 people will come and go, I think there are enough people on her both old and new that contribute. as for repeated questions, its just one of things you get anywhere, it could be that people dont know how to use the forum or just want a personalised reply everyone interprets forums differently and uses them for different reasons. as long as it remains a polite and informative forum with both on and off topics ill stick around 1 sammy sun reacted to this

Cast ashore 100 Report post Posted April 6, 2017 Agree with Furby people will come and go. Quite a few members may only check on here every once in awhile, I myself being one of these people. Repeated questions are to be expected and though some posters may have the same answer as before, others may have something new to say as their opinion has changed for whatever reason. Fudge 265 Report post Posted April 12, 2017 People disappear from forums for a variety of reasons. I'm still here but haven't posted because I found my position untenable. There was a coterie who encouraged and backed up the posts of a ringleader (who was subsequently banned). It was sport to them - a game, which only ended in the banning of the ringleader. No more sport was to be had and they move on. At best, it is possible that absent members may have been one and the same person, (sock puppets); another possibly left because his pal was banned. Others may have passed away but one is still alive and kicking and talking about this very thread on his blog. At worst, the novelty of a new forum wears off and they lose interest. 1 HLM reacted to this

I was a member of this forum from the very early days but left the forum and cancelled my membership losing all my past posts due to the actions of possibly the same ringleader and his entourage of followers. I eventually returned with a new username and started membership again from scratch. 2 pennbank and HLM reacted to this
Captain Kidd II 786 Report post Posted April 12, 2017 Sometimes you do get bored of seeing the dame questions and comments time and time again. I do not come on as much as I used to and do not know why really. I also keep on eye on social media pages which also get the same questions but where you can meet travellers who are sailing with you more easily. Perhaps we shoukd do the same.
