WHY WOULD YOU GO WITH P&O (OMG STOP MOANING)

109 posts in this topic

I' ve found these postings very amusing.  After several "moaning" experiences we tend to be anti-social and keep to ourselves with a table for 2 whenever possible.  We are not rude to people who want to chat or want to join us for a coffee or a drink but try to avoid the moaners.

Several cruises ago one lady complained that the waiter never asked if her and her husband wanted bread.  She went on to say that they'd told him on the first night that they didn't eat bread but he should still ask.

My friend had a lady complain that there were too many WCs on this cruise.  My friend said there can never be too many toilets. The reply was "I don't mean toilets but working class".

Seems a bit of a shame to me Furby as cruises are one of the most sociable ways to travel - that's why I like cruising so much.

not for me, my work involves constantly talking to the public so my dream holiday is not having to talk to anyone at all, each to their own

Absolutely each to their own Furby.  No criticism intended.  I used to work in a public-facing role talking to people all the time.  Most of them were unhappy about something though and most of the pax I associate with on a cruise are having a great time :)

i must say though although i have probably highlighted the bad side, it does all seem to stem from my fellow travellers.

i have to say the crew and indeed the ship have been fantastic.

theres the odd bit of maintainance or repairs going on but they avoid inconveniancing you as far as possible. theres always an area you can get away from it all.

not much at all when you consider 2000 odd people plus crew using her 24/7 none stop.

my favourite at the moment is the smoking area outside the east bar on deck 11, super veiw out to sea and over the covered pool area. most of the moaners seem to be non smokers and the bar is next door, always handy. ive even trained (bribed) one of the waiters to deliver at 7.45.

I'm afraid I'm about to join the moaners against fellow passengers and I'm not even on board yet! On the coach headed to Southampton and every time we stop one gentleman immediately stands up in the gangway whilst his wife rearranges her handbag, gathers coats etc, oblivious to the fact that there is 20 people waiting behind him. Why doesn't he stay seated until ready, or get off and wait outside the bus, or even help his wife!

I know just what you mean. I also think that people sitting at the front of the bus should get off at the front & not try to shove their way into the queue of people from the back of the bus who are trying to get off using the door in the middle.

talking of queing since when did riding one these bl**** scooters give you priority access.

orderley queue formed outside main dining for breakfast, everyone chatting etc. i obviously wasnt the only one got the clocks wrong.

this ****** woman on one of these trikes came swanning past shot through the doors as they opened and practically leapt out on to "her" table.

i have to say excellant timing but damned annoying.

and promptly gave a mouthful to a gent who mentioned she might like to join the queue tommorrow.

i think someone may have a flat tyre tommorrow.

Lower expectations OWT.... :D

Have too mention that having been with both Saga and CM, there are just as many moaners, can comment on Fred Olsen.

On a beautiful sail around the islands of Croatia, one couple seem to moan about everything. Food, Boat, Itinerary. They made comments that having been on a Rhine river cruise a few weeks earlier it was nothing like that had been and were disappointed. I was quick to point out that we were on the sea and not a river, it was like trying to compare a holiday on Cunard with a Channel ferry, they soon shut up.

I understand that some people are unfortunate in having to use these scooters and wheelchairs in order to get on with there lives. But I also hate the fact that they seem to see it as a ticket to the front of the cue. Recently on a excursion one person using a wheelchair would stand at every shop and be first of the coach, with no side door that meant that everybody had too wait for him. Being first down the steps there was nobody to help him so we all had to wait.

well the weather has been good to us and the capt altered the planned course to keep us 3-400 miles away from a tropical storm south of us.

the swell increased a little but nothing to inconveniance anyone. but to hear one couple at breakfast you would have thought we had done a crossing of the south atlantic. to hear their version of how difficult they found getting around yesterday everyone else thought they had been rescued from another ship. we did question wether gin and tonic were more responsible than the weather.

yesterdays lunch companions were aghast at the fact i worked for a living and was only 58 as if i shouldnt be allowed out on my own. all of the other 7 were over 85.

i struggled to explain to the sprightly 96 year old next to me how using the internet i can still work here as well. she insisted on speaking to me as if i was an errant grandchild scolding me when i mentioned i had a good night in the casino last night.

oh and please please i do not want to meet your daughter/granddaughter !!!!! what is it with women and match making.

well finally sussed the clocks thingy and woke at a reasonable time for breakfast.

was even able to be organised so i could go into the buffet just after 7 and then out to the smoking area by the pool.

beutiful day calm super sunrise collared a chair in the sun at the edge of the smoking area and did my physio like a good boy,doc will be pleased.

couple of cups of coffee and even risked removing the shirt, factor 50 required. the captain did warn the greenpeace whaling bods.

hadnt realised how much fun can be had watching the sunbed wars unfold.

the nabbers were there 0715 with their towels and accessorys nabbing a bed from the pile and then disappearing. the creww came out around 7.30 to unpack the beds and lay them out, even they shook their heads when they saw half a dozen had already been taken and positioned.

then came the supervisors with their slaves, one poor slave had 3 generations of masters (mother wife and daughter) poor lad 3/4s of an hour he had to move and re-move 3 beds with counter instructions from each master. after an hour or so he was allowed to slope off to the buffet with instructions to go back to the cabin and get that flowery hat for mum as its too windy for the one shes brought.and no he cant watch the football mum wants to go to the acupuncture demo.

boy i love travelling alone.

nearly got trampelled in the rush when i left my prime position lounger.

Great posts Mitch - I'm really enjoying your trip on Arcadia with you.   Almost makes me nostalgic for what was once our favourite P&O ship - but only almost.    Continue to have a fantastic cruise - we did this on our very first cruise, also on Arcadia - and we loved it.  We had the most amazing time and it will never be forgotten.    Keep these great posts coming.

well who says you shouldnt go in casinos.

if you went in on the first three nights you got a raffle ticket, a different colour each night.

the draw was tonight. the ticket from the first night was for a bottle of fizz, the ticket from night 2 was for dinner in sindhu, the ticket from the 3rd night was for, a bottle of fizz plus £50 plus dinner for 2 in ocean grill .

guess who won the 3rd night prize lol.

cash, fizz and a free dinner who says gamblings bad lol.

I must have been lucky on the one Saga cruise I have done so far - no moaners at all (that I heard!).  Will find out about CMV next May...

It's about time that P&O  did something about this and if you leave your sunbed for more than 30 minutes your items should be removed to safe storage and allow others to use the sunbed.

oops got the time right port wrong antigua is tommorrow lol.

they jet wash the pool deck windows and deck at about 07.00.

the lesser spotted bednappers were even earlier today they beat me to the pool deck must have scared them me being there before them yesterday lol.

my solution is simple just leave the jet washing of the deck until 8am. anything up there then goes overboard lol.

the thing was and is i went up at 7 for brekky went out on to deck at 7.30 for coffee and a fag. sunbathed til 9.30 went in and came back about 13.30 and at all times there were about 20 empty beds and that was just on the pool deck aft of the buffet. there were loads more else where as well so i just dont see the need or point.

i suppose they would like their name carved into a section of deck for the duration lol.

if it was super busy and a pain to find somewhere to sit or sunbathe i may have some sympathy but i doubt it, overboard with the lot.

does that make me grumpy?
