Cunard Line has announced the news that Queen Victoria will undergo a major multi-million refit in Hamburg at the Blohm & Voss Shipyard. The refit will take place in January 2015 following on from the recent refit to sister ship, Queen Elizabeth. Queen Victoria’s makeover will feature similar transformations including nine single staterooms being added to the ship for the first time. The casino will be re-modelled and given a new look, all carpets throughout the ship will be renewed and large flat screen TVs will be installed into all passenger staterooms.
Sun awnings were added to Queen Elizabeth’s open deck area near the Lido Pool at the stern of the ship and Queen Victoria will receive the same style awnings. These awnings will also be added to both sides of the Grills Upper Terrace area to provide more shade for passengers on deck.
In the shopping area on board the footprint is increasing significantly, new Fine Jewellery and Watch ships are opening and the layout, lighting and overall shopping experience for passengers is being enhanced.
On the technical front, scrubber technology is being installed aboard Queen Victoria to match that now aboard Queen Elizabeth in line with the cruise company’s commitment to minimizing its environmental impact. This involves the installation of a filtration system for the exhaust gas from the ship’s engines.
Cunard Director Angus Struthers said: “Queen Victoria’s multi-million pound refit will ensure this much-loved ship remains in tip-top condition for her World Cruise in 2015 and beyond.”
