Themed Cruises

Themed cruises have become more and more common in recent years, with several cruise lines incorporating themed itineraries into their season programmes to give cruisers the opportunity to indulge their hobbies on the high seas.

Classic Itineraries

For the most part, themed cruises will sail a classic itinerary, such as the Mediterranean for example, but will supplement the cruise experience with a host of activities and excursions that are tailor-made to a certain theme. There are countless themed cruises out there, offering everything from yoga at sea to art and literary cruises, musical events and even fashion themed cruises.

P&O Cruises offer a range of themed sailings, from Food Heroes itineraries with top celebrity chefs, to Arctic explorers and adventurers. Saga are award-winning when it comes to their themed cruises, with everything from music to food, architecture, art and wildlife covered by the numerous themed itineraries offered each year. Other cruise lines such as NCL and Royal Caribbean are also known to charter their ships for special rock or dance music themed cruises, too.

Themed Cruise Excursions

From wine tastings on world-renowned vineyards in Italy to shopping trips to La Boqueria in Barcelona with the ship’s head chef on selected foodie themed cruises or a special private performance delivered in a world-famous venue on musical event cruises, each one is carefully planned to offer something completely befitting of the theme.

Sporting Events Themed Cruises

Cruise lines may also design themed cruise itineraries specifically around a sporting event, such Monaco F1 Grand Prix sailings, Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix packages or the British Open themed cruises. The itineraries for these cruises are designed to ensure that the ship is in port to coincide with the event and they usually incorporate an overnight stay too, so you can really make the most of everything that is going on.

All themed cruises offer the option of joining the itinerary but not taking part in any of the specific theme events occurring on board. These events are usually limited to specific areas on board or dedicated excursions enjoyed in port, so it is perfectly possible to enjoy the same itinerary as others, even when the theme isn’t quite up your street.
