Hannah Waddingham Named Godmother of Sun Princess

Hannah Waddingham, renowned actor and performer, has been named the official Godmother of Princess Cruises’ latest addition, Sun Princess. This star-powered naming ceremony will occur in the Port of Barcelona on 23 April 2024, which also honours St. George’s Day.

John Padgett, Princess Cruises President, commented: “We’re delighted to welcome the illuminous and elegant Hannah Waddingham to serve as Godmother for our sensational new Sun Princess.

“Just like Sun Princess, she exudes sophistication, beauty and wonderment through her inspiring work as a talented and award-winning actress and performer. We’re truly honored Hannah will officially name our most impressive, luxurious and stunning Love Boat ever created, and join an esteemed group of Princess Godparents including members of the Royal family.”

Waddingham is the latest addition to the illustrious lineup that has served as Godparent to Princess ships, including Princess Diana (Royal Princess, 1984), Princess Kate Middleton (Royal Princess, 2013), Audrey Hepburn (Star Princess, 1989), Sophia Loren (Crown Princess, 1990), and Martha Stewart (Crown Princess, 2006), to name a few.

Sun Princess houses 4,300 guests and brings forth an innovative ship platform exclusively designed for one of the most distinguished cruise brands globally. As a true marvel of engineering, Sun Princess officially commenced her inaugural cruise season in February 2024, and is presently venturing a range of Mediterranean journeys before making its debut in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, in October for the ship’s first Caribbean season.

Known for their spacious venues, Princess ships have escalated this concept with the Sun Princess. The ship debuts new and visually stunning experience venues like The Dome, a pioneering geodesic, glass-made structure at the ship’s apex, taking inspiration from the terraces of Santorini. The impressive and hanging Sphere Atrium, which gave this new class of ship its name, elevates the ship’s central Piazza hub to a higher level. Here, guests are surrounded by majestic ocean views in an open layout, aiming to emulate the preferred lifestyle of peaceful indoor and outdoor living.
