Paying by Credit Card

New rules which came into place on 13 January 2018 mean that companies are now banned from charging ANY fees for credit or debit card payments.

The new directive, officially known as the Payment Services Directive (PSD2), makes it illegal for any business to charge extra for using a debit or credit card, and this includes travel agents.

Though some companies will still be able to add booking or admin fees, here at Bolsover Cruise Club, there are no hidden charges or any extras to pay when booking your cruise.

This change in legislation has prompted many important questions for anyone who is looking to book a cruise holiday and we’ve answered some of your most frequent questions below.

Does the ban on card fees apply to all card types?

Yes. The ban on processing fees will apply to payments made using credit and debit cards from Visa, Mastercard, PayPal and American Express. A decision is yet to be made on whether the ban will extend to charge cards, such as Amex and Diners.

Will prices go up as a result of the credit card charge ban?

The answer is simply no, not when you book your cruise holiday with us at Bolsover Cruise Club.

We won’t be adding any booking or admin fees to cover the cost of processing card transactions, unlike some other travel agents.

How much will the ban on credit card charges save me?

Before the new rule came into place, some companies were charging cardholders fees of up to 3%, while others charged a flat fee regardless of the amount spent.

So overall, the credit card surcharge ban could save you a substantial amount if you are booking a holiday with a cruise operator who previously charged credit card fees prior to the ban.
