Princess Cruises celebrated a milestone as Star Princess, the newest and most innovative ship in its fleet, is officially named by Camila and Matthew McConaughey in a spectacular ceremony.
The Hollywood couple, known for their shared passion for life, creativity, and philanthropy, served as godparents during a centuries-old maritime tradition, breaking a bottle of their own Pantalones Organic Tequila against the ship’s hull to bestow good fortune on Star Princess, her guests and crew.
The McConaugheys now join an illustrious list of Princess Cruises godparents that includes Princess Diana, Catherine, Princess of Wales, Audrey Hepburn, and Sophia Loren.
The 177,800-ton Star Princess, accommodating 4,300 guests, exemplifies the line’s signature service and elegant design. The ship features world-class dining and bar venues, immersive entertainment and activities, and luxurious accommodations designed to redefine modern cruising.
Hosted by travel and lifestyle TV personality Dawn McCoy, the evening’s highlight was a performance by nine-time Grammy Award-winning artist Sheryl Crow, followed by a dazzling drone show illuminating the night sky in celebration of Star Princess’ forthcoming cruises to Alaska.
Reflecting their deep connection to the brand, the McConaugheys’ Pantalones Organic Tequila is featured across the Princess fleet, including in the popular 24K Gold Margarita and the Love Line Premium Liquors Collection.
Before arriving in Fort Lauderdale, Star Princess completed a transatlantic voyage and will begin her Caribbean season on November 7, 2025. After a winter-to-spring series of sun-soaked Caribbean cruises, the ship will sail through the Panama Canal to Seattle, where she will debut 7-day Alaska Inside Passage voyages in summer 2026, marking the next chapter in Princess Cruises’ storied exploration of The Great Land.
