Eastern Caribbean Islands prepare for Tropical Storm Dorian

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has issued a travel alert for islands in the eastern Caribbean as Tropical Storm Dorian was forecast to hit on Tuesday 27 Aug 2019.

Storm Dorian

The FCO has amended its travel advice for a string of islands as the Caribbean enters its annual hurricane season.

Travellers are being urged to “exercise due caution and monitor local news and weather reports” and should also check local and international weather updates from the US National Hurricane Centre and follow the advice from local authorities, including evacuation orders.

Caution about Tropical Storm Dorian covers islands includes Barbados, St Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, St Kitts and Nevis, St Maarten, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, Montserrat, British Virgin Islands and Dominica.

Many islands in the Caribbean were devastated by Hurricane Irma in 2017.

Cruise Lines Tweak Itineraries to avoid Storm Dorian

Carnival Cruise Line and Disney Cruise Line have adjusted port calls for a combined three ships to avoid Tropical Storm Dorian.

Carnival Sunrise, adjusted the order of port calls on its itinerary. The ship is now going to stop at San Juan on Friday, instead of Grand Turk, and at Amber Cove on Saturday, instead of San Juan. Carnival Sunrise will visit Grand Turk Sunday, instead of Amber Cove.

Carnival Breeze dropped Wednesday’s scheduled call at San Juan. Instead, the ship remained at sea.

CocoCay Closes for the next week

Due to Storm Dorian, Royal Caribbean is closing CocoCay for the next week.

RCI said in a statement:

Given its current strength and path projections, we’ve decided to close CocoCay until Wednesday, September 4.

Ships are being rerouted to other ports and sent on different itineraries to avoid challenging weather in the Caribbean.
