European Ports Begin To Re-open

While sailings with cruise lines continue to be on hold, some of Northern Europe’s largest posts have begun to re-open, according to the Northern European Port Survey.

Created using information from Cruise Britain and Cruise Europe organisations, with support from Cruise Ireland and Cruise Scotland, the survey analysed 113 ports and destinations, with roughly half of those currently listed as ‘open’. Amongst the ports in Europe already re-opened and theoretically ready to welcome ships once they resume service are Edinburgh, Stockholm, Southampton, Oslo and St. Petersburg.

The survey identified many ports set to reopen in May, including Flam on May 1, the French ports of Bordeaux, Le Havre and Rouen on May 11, and Rotterdam on May 26. Others offering more distant dates for re-opening include Copenhagen on 1 June and Ísafjörður in Iceland in July.

Set to be repeated regularly over the coming weeks, the Northern European Port Survey has been designed to deliver a better understanding of how the fluid situation is developing and offers hope of light at the end of the tunnel in the COVID-19 pandemic.
