Cruisers looking to explore the American Southwest in comfort and style will soon have a new option to extend their journey. Beginning in 2026, the Canyon Spirit train will extend its popular Rockies to the Red Rocks journey to include Salt Lake City, Utah. The new three-day route adds an extra day of rail travel through some of the region’s most impressive and varied landscapes, making it an ideal addition to a North American itinerary.
Canyon Spirit is the new name for the luxury train previously operated under the Rocky Mountaineer brand in the US. Since 2021, it has offered a relaxed and scenic way to experience the American Southwest by rail. The rebrand reflects a focused commitment to showcasing the natural beauty and character of the region, from deep river canyons and towering rock formations to the desert plains and the mighty Colorado River.
The new route connects Denver, Colorado, with Salt Lake City, Utah, over the course of three days. Along the way, guests will enjoy overnight stays in two well-loved towns:
The added day of travel includes scenic mountain passes in eastern Utah and the open, high-desert terrain of the Great Basin before arriving in Salt Lake City, a city surrounded by mountain views.
Canyon Spirit offers a relaxed, comfortable rail experience designed to highlight the Southwest’s landscapes and culture. Onboard features include:
Rather than rushing from one destination to another, Canyon Spirit invites you to enjoy the journey itself, with time to absorb your surroundings, enjoy freshly prepared meals, and learn the stories behind the places you pass through.
In 2026, two routes will be available:
Both options offer a slower and more scenic way to experience the Southwest, perfect for travellers who want to avoid long drives and flights while still exploring some of the region’s most iconic locations.
Whether you’re pairing it with a Cruise & Stay package, planning a national park adventure, or simply seeking a different kind of holiday, Canyon Spirit adds a unique rail element to any USA itinerary. It’s especially suited to those who enjoy relaxed travel, stunning views, good food, and cultural storytelling, without the demands of a self-drive or structured tour.
