Construction has officially begun on the second Icon Class ship in the Royal Caribbean fleet. A steel-cutting ceremony was held at Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, on the soon-to-be-named ship due to launch in 2025.
The first Icon Class ship, aptly named Icon of the Seas, will set sail for the first time in January 2024. This milestone marks the official start of production and represents the first of several key stages throughout the design and construction process. Thousands of experts across the fields of design, naval engineering, architecture and more will be involved over the coming months.
A third Icon Class ship is planned, with each one showcasing the best of everything from a resort getaway to a theme park adventure.
Icon of the Seas is already set to break the mould of what is possible from a cruise ship, featuring Category 6, the largest waterpark at sea. Other highlights include Royal Bay, the largest swimming pool ever to be found on a cruise ship.
Details of the new Icon Class ship will emerge in due course, including the grand reveal of its much-anticipated name.
