Princess Cruises Names New Ship Star Princess

Details of a new Princess Cruises ship, Star Princess, have been announced. She will become the second Sphere-class ship in spring 2025, joining Sun Princess which is due to join the fleet in 2024.

The 175,500-tonne ship will host 4,300 guests, with more than 1,500 balcony cabins available. She will be around 20 per cent larger than other ships in the fleet, boasting 29 restaurants and bars spanning a total of 21 decks.

The design of the Sphere Class ships focuses on a glass sphere that infuses the Piazza with light, connecting guests with the ever-changing views around them. The Dome is set to be a standout feature on board Star Princess, a cutting-edge top-deck entertainment space inspired by the tiered cliffs of Santorini. Guests will also be able to make the most of a next-level Piazza featuring a glass sphere, and the Princess Arena, a technologically advanced theatre capable of facilitating innovative entertainment concepts. Another standout feature of Star Princess will be a majestic dining room positioned at the aft of the ship.

Several features set the Sphere Class apart from the rest of the Princess Cruises fleet, including the use of Liquified Natural Gas (LNG), a cleaner-burning fuel designed to lower air emissions and the cruise line’s environmental impact.

John Padgett, President of Princess Cruises, said: “There’s much to be admired about Star Princess – her sleek, eye-catching design, spacious interiors, and of course, the remarkable views of the sea and sky, just like the features found on Sun Princess that have prompted cruise lovers to snap up inaugural year bookings.

“We’ve carefully designed these ships to feel familiar to our guests yet significantly advanced with lots of exceptional new and expanded experiences to embrace and explore.”

Star Princess is currently undergoing construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy alongside her sister ship Sun Princess. The new Princess Cruises ship is due to embark on her maiden voyage on 4 August 2025, where she will sail a nine-day Italy and Greece voyage roundtrip from Rome. This will be followed by a number of nine and 10-day cruises, also roundtrip from Rome, that visit a series of European destinations such as Florence, Barcelona and Mykonos.
