Royal Caribbean Confirms Odyssey of the Seas Delay

Royal Caribbean International has confirmed that the launch of new ship, Odyssey of the Seas, will now be postponed until April 2021.

The first Quantum Ultra Class ship, Odyssey of the Seas had been scheduled for debut in November, however a combination of cruise suspensions and supply chain issues at the Meyer Werft shipyards have delayed construction and left the cruise line with no option but to delay its arrival and subsequent inaugural season. Royal Caribbean confirmed that all voyages between its planned 5 November 20201 launch and 17 April 2020 would be cancelled.

“We are saddened to have to share this news,” a Royal Caribbean International spokesperson said. “There’s nothing we wanted more than to launch this revolutionary ship this autumn – but trust us when we say that Odyssey of the Seas will be well worth the wait!”

The family cruise line also confirmed that it would be making changes to some features aboard the new ship. The Trapeze School will no longer feature in the SeaPlex, while age restrictions will be introduced to the SkyPad. Passengers must be at least 7 years of age to jump and at least 13 years old to use the attraction with a virtual reality headset.

Odyssey of the Seas will sail the Mediterranean in spring 2021, before relocating to its second homeport of Fort Lauderdale.
