Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas Completes Successful Sea Trials

Royal Caribbean International’s new ship, the Icon of the Seas, has successfully completed its initial round of sea trials and sailed the open ocean for the very first time.

After four days of preliminary tests, Icon returned to the Meyer Turku shipyard where she is currently under construction. Hundreds of workers on board covered an extensive checklist of key technical areas, including the main engines, the hull, the brake system, steering, noise levels, and vibration levels.

It took over 2,000 specialists, hundreds of miles travelled, and more than 350 hours of work to bring Icon of the Seas to this important milestone. There will be a second round of sea trials later this year, where the ship will be pushed to its limits ahead of its highly anticipated debut in Miami in January 2024.

Icon of the Seas is set to usher in a new era of holidays. With a neighbourhood designed for young families, an unrivalled 40-plus dining, drinking and entertainment options, record-breaking thrills, and relaxing ways to chill, it is suitable for every type of family and adventurer.

Icon of the Seas will sail seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries from Miami all year long. These will include island-hopping to destinations such as Royal Caribbean’s award-winning private island destination, Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas, Cozumel in Mexico, Philipsburg in St. Maarten, and Roatan in Honduras.
