A brand-new eight-part TV series, Supercruising: Life at Sea, featuring Holland America Line is set to premiere on Channel 4 at 8pm on 3 July. This eight-part series offers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at life aboard two of Holland America’s Pinnacle-class cruise ships – Nieuw Statendam and Rotterdam – as they journey across the Caribbean, Panama Canal, South America, Canary Islands, and North Africa.
Nieuw Statendam is renowned for blending contemporary style with classic cruising. From its world-class dining venues and live music stages to elegant staterooms and inviting public spaces, she represents the very best of modern cruising – and now, viewers can see it all in action.
Episode one features Nieuw Statendam, departing from Dover with Executive Chef Jundiel Marcelo and a talented culinary team of over 200 preparing for another unforgettable voyage. Viewers will be treated to a rare look behind the scenes as this state-of-the-art ship begins her journey.
Guests on board Nieuw Statendam are transported to a number of incredible destinations. One standout moment featured in the series sees cruisers experiencing the thrill of a 2km basket sledge ride in Madeira, a traditional and exhilarating descent down steep roads under the skilled guidance of ‘carreiros’.
The camera then turns to Rotterdam, Holland America’s flagship and a showstopper in the Pinnacle-class fleet. In the Caribbean and during a remarkable Panama Canal sailing, viewers are introduced to Captain Eric Barhorst, who commands operations from the ship’s Bridge. His leadership ensures smooth sailing through some of the world’s most intricate and iconic waterways.
One memorable shore excursion featured in the show sees guests riding horses through the lagoon at Half Moon Cay, Holland America’s private island in the Bahamas. This idyllic destination offers the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure, embodying the premium experience guests expect from the line.
Rotterdam’s interiors are renowned for their sleek design, innovative dining, immersive entertainment, and enriching activities all come together to create a cruise experience that’s second to none.
