Newport
During the 19th century, Newport served as the summer playground for the rich and famous. Residents displayed their fabulous wealth in the form of palatial estates overlooking the Atlantic. Today, these extraordinary and meticulously maintained homes line the city’s famed “Mansion Row” and are a must-see for any visitor.
Boston
Welcome to an American city where history truly does come to life. Be sure to visit Bunker Hill Monument, Paul Revere’s House, the Old North Church, Quincy Market and the mansions of Beacon Hill. Then wander Boston Common, the oldest public park in the U.S.
Bar Harbor
This coastal attraction has retained much of its charm since its glory days of the 1900s, when America’s elite vacationed here in opulent summer cottages. Surrounding the rock-bound harbour is the world-famous Acadia National Park where the opulence of nature is on display.
St John
Although Champlain landed here in 1604 and named the town, it wasn’t settled until 1783 by Loyalists fleeing the colonies during the American Revolution. Canada’s Maritime Province of New Brunswick is intriguing, with its tidy farms, stately Georgian manors and tea at four. The topography is equally interesting: In a land of vast virgin forests and rushing rivers, fierce tides as high as 53 feet are fueled by the fingerlike Bay of Fundy.
Halifax
Admire the rugged coastline that surrounds Halifax, the world’s second-largest natural harbour. This beautifully preserved city is Nova Scotia’s capital and was founded in 1749. Take steps through history and climb to The Citadel to witness the Old Town Clock.
At Sea
Come aboard Norwegian Breakaway and cruise along North America’s spectacular East Coast. In Boston, stroll into history on the Freedom Trail – a 2.5-mile-long path through scenic downtown that spotlights more than a dozen historic sites. From Bar Harbour, soak in one of America’s most scenic drives as you explore Acadia National Park, from visiting Otter Cliffs where you might spot rock climbers scaling the dramatic rock formations, to seeing wildlife traversing the park’s pine wood forests. Then uncover the natural beauty of Nova Scotia while touring Halifax-the world’s second largest natural harbour-and lingering at Bras d’Or Lakes outside Sydney.
New York
Everyone loves New York and there are a million reasons why. Here are but a few: the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, Grand Central Station, the Ellis Island National Monument, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim Museum, Times Square, Broadway, Greenwich Village, 5th Avenue and Central Park.
