Originally built in the 15th century, the site is well known for its sophisticated stone walls and intriguing buildings. The site was declared a Peruvian Historical Sanctuary in 1981 and a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1983. More recently, Machu Pichu was voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Next, visit the colonial side of the city, visiting the cathedral, the Viceroyalty of Peru, the main places of Lima's Plaza Mayor (Main Square), the Government Palace, the City Hall and other important monuments.|
|18||This morning, transfer to the airport for your flight to Cusco. On arrival, transfer to your hotel. Cusco is one of the most popular destinations in Peru. Wander the streets and side alleys and admire the tapering Inca stonework that provided foundations for many of Cusco's colonial & modern buildings. The city itself is the continent's oldest continuously inhabited city & was the home of the Inca Empire for two centuries before the Spanish built their first capital here. This afternoon, enjoy an orientation walking tour. On the way you will see the Stone of Twelve Angles at the Inca Roca Palace, on Hatun Rumilloc Street. You will see the facade of the most sacred Inca building "The Temple of Qoricancha". Also, you will head to the heart of the city, "the Plaza de Armas", surrounded by colonial arcades & churches. In this place you will find the beautiful "Cathedral" of Cusco, built in the XVI.|
|19||This morning, head to the small town of Chinchero. This town lies off the main road between Cusco and Urubamba. There is a great display of Inca architecture, ruins and megalithic carved rocks. Chinchero is home to the famous Peruvian weaving and has a colourful market (on Sundays only). It is a lot smaller than the one in Pisac. You will head to a community in the Valley to learn about local lifestyle and activities with the weaving ladies and if the visit coincides with market day you can spend time browsing the stalls in search of local handicrafts. Continue your trip through the Sacred Valley along the Urubamba River towards the town of Ollantaytambo, where you'll see a magnificent example of Incan urban planning. It's one of the few places where the Incas defeated the Spanish. On arrival you will visit the ancient ruins of Ollantaytambo, Afterwards, transfer to your hotel located in the middle of the Sacred Valley.|
|20||This morning, head to the local train station to take the "First Class Machu Picchu Train" towards the town of Aguas Calientes. The train ride to Machu Picchu is one of the most beautiful journeys in Peru, after passing the Sacred Valley of the Incas the train starts to ascends gradually along the edge of the Urubamba River, till finally reach the cloud forest. The train offers gourmet lunch on board. Upon arrival, you will be taken to the Machu Picchu ruins starting with a short bus ride up the steep, zigzagging road to the impressive Lost City of the Incas. Once you arrive to the ruins, you will have a guided tour of the ruins. In the archaeological zone of Machu Picchu your guide will show you the most important sectors of this great Inca City, such as the great Intiwatana (solar clock), the Sun Temple, the urban sector & the agricultural sector among others. Machu Picchu was long thought to be legendary. Then in 1911, the explorer Hiram Bingham stumbled upon it remains. Machu Picchu stands 2,430 m above sea-level, in the middle of a tropical mountain forest, in an extraordinarily beautiful setting. It was probably the most amazing urban creation of the Inca Empire at its height. After the guided tour, you will have some free hours to wander around the site and take more photos. Later, you will return to the town by bus where you will take the train back to Ollantaytambo town. On board you will enjoy a gourmet dinner. Private transfer to hotel in Cusco.|
