This hugely impressive cruise ship carries an incredible 4100 passengers and is the largest ship in the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet.
Norwegian Epic is all about warm weather cruising. During the summer and autumn months the Mediterranean plays host to this magnificent cruise ship. The winter period is all about Norwegian Epic’s homeport of Miami and the sight of the sun drenched Eastern Caribbean. This aptly named cruise liner takes to the seas to create a whole new world of inspiration, charm and wow factors for passengers.
When it comes to day time entertainment Norwegian Epic has it all. If you’re looking to relax head for one of the pool scenes dotted around the ship or perhaps you’d prefer to take a dip in one of the six outdoor hot tubs? You will find four of the hot tubs located poolside whilst the other two can be found in the Spice H2O area. Take relaxation to a whole new level at the state-of-the-art Mandara Spa, where you can enjoy one of the most extensive treatment programmes available at sea. Stay in shape with the jogging and walking track that encircles the ship or make the most of the Pulse Fitness Centre with your favourite gym equipment including treadmills and free weights accompanied with yoga, palates and spinning classes.
If action-packed fun is more of your thing head over to the Sports Complex located on Deck 17, and discover not one, but two full-sized basketball courts. Get your adrenaline pumping on the 33ft high climbing wall, master the 24ft enclosed climbing cage or experience the thrill of the first ever abseiling wall at sea experience. The most exciting area you’ll find on Norwegian Epic is the Aqua Park, where the whole family will spend hours whooshing down the three story waterslide and enjoying the 200 foot Epic Plunge – the only bowl slide at sea.
Parents can relax safe in the knowledge that the kids are being well looked after by expertly trained staff in NCL’s Youth Programme Splash Academy, where they can enjoy creative play, sports and more. The kids will be pleased to know that adults aren’t allowed past the door! Teenagers can kick back in their own dedicated space, Entourage. This glass-fronted enclave features air hockey, football, TVs and sofas for chilling. Come night time, the area transforms to become a teens-only nightclub.
Show productions aboard the Norwegian Epic are absolutely fantastic and you’ll probably find it hard to decide which to see first. For the first time ever, Blue Man Group can be seen at sea for an original experience created by the uniquely talented individuals. The longest running tribute show, Legends in Concert, brings the world’s greatest celebrity impersonators to sea and every performance is a show-stopper. Witness an incredible spectacle in the brilliantly put together Cirque Dreams; part circus, part Moulin Rouge, it’s an entertainment extravaganza that always receives rave reviews. The venue allows for the show to be combined with dinner should you wish.
Norwegian Epic boasts a great choice of bars and lounges to enjoy late into the evening. Choose from sophisticated cosmopolitans or something more adventurous in the Shakers Bar or savour a dozen choices of whisky at Maltings Whisky Bar. If you’re looking for a bit of family fun or friendly rivalry to see the night through, how about one Norwegian Epic’s six bowling alleys located in O’Sheeran’s Neighbourhood Bar & Grill?
You’ll need to wrap up warm in the complimentary coat to make the most of the coolest place on board. The innovative SVEDKA Ice Bar, inspired by the ice hotels in Scandinavia, is a special experience and a must-visit venue aboard NCL Epic. Fat Cats Jazz & Blues Club presents live music with a split personality, housing both jazz and blues for a uniquely eclectic evening. Alternatively, head for the Bliss Ultra Lounge and enjoy an evening of cocktails and DJ-spun tunes.
Norwegian Epic provides a wealth of culinary choices. Boasting ‘freestyle cruising’ and with an impressive 24 different dining venues on offer, you’ll be spoilt for choice. The Manhattan Room and Taste are the ship’s two main dining rooms and both will provide you with tantalising dishes each and every evening. The main dining rooms operate an open seating policy, meaning no reservations and no sittings – just arrive when you wish and enjoy.
Cagney’s Steakhouse overlooks the Manhattan Room and is a signature speciality dining venue offering steak and seafood concoctions that never fail to impress. Alternatively head for Le Bistro, the alluring French restaurant, or to La Cucina Restaurant for a Tuscan inspired Italian dining experience. Other speciality restaurants include Shanghai’s Chinese Restaurant, Moderno Churrascaria and Teppanyaki.
Garden Café is one of the casual daytime dining venues available on board, with freshly prepared omelettes, crepes, seafood and pasta on offer throughout the day. Open 24 hours a day, O’Sheeran’s Bar & Grill is a great choice for classic American dishes.
Amongst many things, Norwegian Cruise Line is famous for its ‘Freestyle Cruising’ initiative; with no strict restrictions on what passengers should wear (within reason of course!). Passengers are invited to dress in casual attire and just enjoy their day. The majority of guests during the evening opt for an elegant casual approach however some guests may choose to dress up for the night.
I think the initial view of the ship is that it is ugly to look at from the outside, however…
