Oceania Nautica oozes sophistication, her smaller size allowing her to take you to some of the world’s finest destinations. Embark on South Africansafaris, unearth the hidden jewels and historic temples of Thailand or head to the world’s most iconic cities, from Hong Kong to Singapore and Bangkok.
Oceania Cruises is famed for its attention to detail and fantastic standards of service, leading to a reputation as one of the most outstanding luxury cruise lines. With just 684 guests on board and one of the highest crew-to-passenger ratios in the industry, you’ll never want for anything on an Oceania Cruises holiday.
Dip your toes in the pool or relax on a cushion-topped sun lounger, feel yourself unwind as you soak up the sun, your mind hooked on the story that’s about to unfold in your gripping holiday read. Time at sea passes by in a blur but there’s always a spare moment to swim, sip champagne in the whirlpool or have your stresses and strains soothed away at the Canyon Ranch SpaClub.
Peruse designer wares at duty free prices in Nautica’s boutiques, before grabbing a light bite to eat at Baristas, where you’ll find complimentary illy coffees, finger sandwiches, pastries and biscotti. If your appetite calls for something more substantial, Waves Grill located just aft of the pool will fit the bill perfectly. Sink your teeth into juicy grilled burgers, hand-cut truffle fries, tangy barbecued meats and fresh salads, finishing off your meal with a hot fudge sundae or a hand-dipped milkshake.
Holidays are all about relaxation and indulgence in equal measure, but if you feel like you have energy to burn, or you indulged a little much at dinner the night before, there are plenty of ways to get active on board Oceania Nautica. Run a lap around the Fitness Track or head indoors to the cool and air conditioned state-of-the-art Fitness Centre. Alternatively, stretch your legs and head for the well-kept nine-hole putting green or embrace all that is great about traditional cruising, with the game of the ever-popular shuffleboard.
Nautica’s cuisine rivals that which is served in the very finest restaurants on dry land and the best part is that all of her dining venues are included within you cruise fare, even the speciality spots.
The ship’s four dining rooms serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with afternoon tea in Horizons. One thing is for sure, you’ll certainly never go hungry.
The Grand Dining Room is Nautica’s main restaurant, and is classically decorated with oversized armchairs, lavish drapery and rich dark woods. The polished silverware gleams, the Riedal crystal glasses sparkle and the tables are beautifully set with crisp white linens. Dine here at least once during your cruise as you’re guaranteed a night to remember.
Elsewhere, Polo Grill is the perfect choice for meat and fish lovers, specialising in juicy steaks, chops and seafood. Sink into a high-back burgundy chair, taking your time to choose from a menu on which every dish is as tempting as the last.
Sample authentic Italian cuisine in Toscana, where every meal is served on custom-designed Versace china, or tuck into French favourites at Jacques, where classis dishes have been ingeniously reinterpreted by Master Chef Jacques Pépin.
The Terrace Café is inviting at any time of the day, from first thing in the morning when you can sample countless breakfast selections, to a lunch menu of internationally-inspired dishes. Come evening, the café takes on a more sophisticated flair whilst retaining its informal ambience. Holidays are incomplete without meals enjoyed al fresco, so opt to dine on the Terrace Café’s teak tables, under the shade of a giant umbrella and with views over the ocean.
You’ll find plenty of group tables paired with comfortable upholstered seats in the U-shaped Upper Hall, where you can begin your night with a drink in friendly company as the pianist plays in the corner. Afterwards, you can make your way over to the Lounge, where the main stage hosts action from live entertainers, comedians, and all-singing, all-dancing productions from the ship’s very own quartet.
Martinis specialises in, yes you guessed it; Martinis! Cosy up at a table or grab a tall chair at the bar, letting one of the ship’s master mixologists blend you a martini, either shaken or stirred. Alternatively, head to Horizons, where you can move your feet to a little jazz music with a cocktail in hand. Those feeling especially inspired, can even show off their vocal talents on karaoke nights. For those who love a gamble, the Monte Carlo-inspired casino is a temptation that is hard to resist. Head here as the night moves on and see if you can walk away a winner.
After trying a number of different lines, some more than once, we decided to give Oceania a try as we…
