Brimming with Princess Cruises’ signature features and accommodating up to 2,600 passengers, Star Princess entertains her passengers in perfect style as she navigates the shores of Alaska, North America and South & Central America. Tempting itineraries and contemporary styling set this striking cruise ship apart from the rest.
A sparkling three-storey atrium sits at the heart of Star Princess, serving as a gathering place and hive of activity. Boutiques and relaxed lounges are joined by the Vines Wine Bar and International Café; perfect spots to grab a light bite while you enjoy the street performances that illuminate the piazza both day and night. Acrobats suspend from wires, dancers encourage the crowds to join their tango and circus acts totter and juggle above eager spectators.
Activities on deck are even more exciting than those that fill the atrium, with added sun and sea views an obvious bonus. Four pool areas and nine hot tubs mean that you will never struggle for somewhere to soak your shoulders while on board Star Princess. Neptunes Reef and Pool is the main pool area on board, surrounded by sun loungers and overlooked by the giant 300-square foot screen of Princess Cruises’ signature entertainment feature, Movies Under the Stars. Showing family favourites and sporting events during the day, and Hollywood blockbusters once the sun goes down, Movies Under the Stars is an ever popular feature on Princess Cruises ships. Watch movies beneath sunny skies during the day, or get comfy with complimentary blankets and warm popcorn come evening.
The sun always shines at Calypso Reef and Pool, where a retractable glass roof keeps temperatures balmy even when the weather refuses to cooperate. Both Neptunes and Calypso’s pool areas are in perfect proximity to Trident Grill, Prego Pizzeria and Sundaes Ice Cream, while The Mermaid’s Tale Bar will keep glasses full. Quieter pool areas sit on Deck 15 and Deck 16; the Terrace Pool allows swimmers to swim laps against the current, while the Oasis Pool is flanked by two hot tubs and located in a peaceful spot at the very rear of the ship.
Also located on Deck 15 is The Oasis Spa, an Asian-inspired nirvana of calm where an extensive treatment list meets relaxing cosmetic procedures and world-class spa facilities. Choose traditional or innovative treatments to relax and reinvigorate, or take advantage of free aromatherapy steam rooms in the spa’s thermal suite.
Another popular haven for serenity seekers on board Sea Princess is The Sanctuary. Exclusively for adults, this soothing retreat offers dedicated stewards, MP3 players loaded with relaxing playlists, plush loungers, shaded cabanas (prime spots for al fresco massages) and light meals and beverages. Access costs $10 for half-day and £20 for a full day, with ultimate relaxation worth every single penny.
If you prefer to get your heart pumping on sea days head to Center Court, where basketball, football and tennis attracts those with a competitive edge. A state-of-the-art fitness centre invites you to work off last night’s dessert with a sea view, while fitness classes offer enough variety to enable you to try something new each day until you find a favourite.
The ScholarShip@Sea programme is well represented on board Star Princess, with plenty of opportunity to get creative, brush up on computer skills, learn a language or expand your mind with expert lectures. Holiday reads are perfectly at home in the ship’s library, where cosy nooks beg you to climb in and while away the hours with a coffee and a book.
The Promenade is the hub of entertainment on board Star Princess, with Princess Theatre, the Explorer’s Lounge and the Vista Lounge all located in one central area. Grab a drink from the nearby Wheelhouse Bar and take your pick of an array of entertainment; comedians, cabaret, themed nights and live musicians are just a handful of the performances on offer every night. With orchestra-led dancing for those who prefer the traditional cruise experience, comedians offering something more risqué and musicians serenading drinkers in the ship’s many lounges, there really is something for everyone on board Star Princess. Many of the ship’s entertainment venues show first-run, feature length films during the day too.
Night owls are well catered for, with the starry-skied Grand Casino filled with table games and state-of-the-art slots. Tournaments are held regularly throughout the cruise, giving you plenty of opportunity to flirt with Lady Luck. Elsewhere, the futuristic Skywalker’s Nightclub offers spectacular sea views during the day, before being bathed in disco lights and transformed into the ship’s premier party destination every evening.
No holiday is complete without amazing food and Star Princess certainly doesn’t disappoint, with a vast variety of dining options on offer to her passengers day and night. While casual eateries Trident Grill, Prego Pizzeria and Sundaes Ice Cream are perfectly located for poolside dining, the Horizon Court buffet restaurant offers a delicious casual dining venue throughout the day. Choice is plentiful, quality excellent and chefs are poised to whip up omelettes and stir fries just as you like them.
Afternoon tea is one of life’s little indulgences and is served to perfection on Star Princess. Enjoy soft sandwiches, jam-filled scones and sweet cake treats; all complemented by dreamy ocean views.
Star Princess hosts three elegant main dining rooms; Amalfi, Portofino and Capri. Traditional dining is delivered in the Amalfi Restaurant, where diners eat at the same sitting and with the same table companions each evening. Anytime dining offers a tempting element of freedom, with guests invited to dine anytime they choose between 5.30pm and 9.30pm. Portofino Restaurant and Capri Restaurant each offer Anytime dining, with the same delicious gourmet menu and impeccable service offered in all three main dining rooms.
Speciality dining on board Star Princess is provided by Sabatini’s and the Crown Grill. Lobster three ways and grilled veal with mushroom ragout appear on a delectable Italian-inspired menu at Sabatini’s, while the Crown Grill brings the American chop house to the seas with juicy meats, fresh seafood and fine wines.
A casual dress code is adopted for daytimes on board Star Princess, with your usual holiday attire fitting the bill perfectly. Don’t forget to pack according to your itinerary – bikinis and shorts are fine for Hawaii but you’ll need something a little more substantial for Alaska!
Smart casual forms the dress code for evenings, with the exception of formal nights twice each week. These special occasions give passengers a chance to get dressed up in all their finery and join in the glamour of a great evening. Tuxedos and dark suits are required for gentlemen, with cocktail dresses and smart eveningwear for the ladies. Don’t forget your jewels!
