It’s a question that crops up time and time again: when is the best time to cruise the Caribbean?
The truth of the matter is, cruising’s favourite destination is popular all year round and you’ll find as many things to do in the Caribbean in the quieter months, as you will visiting during the peak winter season. There are more than 7000 individual islands in the Caribbean and a cruise holiday offers the opportunity to see more of them in a single trip. Swim with sea turtles in Barbados, ride horseback on the beach in Bermuda, climb waterfalls in Jamaica and whale watch in Dominica; there’s plenty on offer here whenever you arrive.
Cruises sail the Caribbean year round but the months between November and March are considered ‘high season’ here. Temperatures are hot and rainfall is at a minimum, creating conditions we like to call the ‘perfect cruising climate’. Cocktails taste better beneath the sun, the aquamarine waters are warm and more inviting than ever, and sizzling sea days see the pool beckon. With high season starting in November, the Caribbean has long been a popular Christmas cruise destination.
Come spring and the months of April, May and the beginning of June, the Caribbean begins to calm a little. The weather is still hot and the rainfall remains at a minimum, but the high season crowds have passed and there’s a calmer vibe to the place. If you’re looking for the most authentic taste of island life, a spring cruise to the Caribbean can be the answer.
Early June to late October is known as the Caribbean’s official hurricane season but this doesn’t deter the thousands of travellers who continue to visit during low season each year. Countless cruise lines continue to visit the Caribbean throughout this time, albeit with a slightly greater chance of having to change course to avoid any stormy weather. The Caribbean is spread across an enormous area and many destinations rarely experience storms, even during hurricane season.
Whenever you choose to cruise the Caribbean, you’ll find no end of ways to fill your days, here’s just a snippet of what to do in the Caribbean. Toing and froing over which excursions to choose now that you’ve find your perfect itinerary? You need to see this!
