Feeling adventurous? Brace yourself as 60,000 gallons of water cascade around you as you take on the impressive FlowRider, a surf simulator with views over the ships wake and into the ocean. Elsewhere on board you can take on the challenge and race to the top of the climbing wall that towers 200ft above sea level, or practice your pirouettes on the ice at Studio B. The ice rink is a favourite with all ages and abilities, so lace up your boots and let yourself go; falling over is part of the fun! For a healthy dose of competition let the kids pick your teams, get your game face on and your handshake down to a tee, then head for the Sports Court on Deck 13. Basketball, football and tennis will burn off plenty of excess energy and banish boredom instantly.
If all this sounds a little too exertive, make your way to the Vitality Spa and treat yourself with some precious ‘me’ time. Indulge with a treatment or just make the most of the soothing facilities, before working on your chakras with a little yoga. The adults-only Solarium is filled with palm trees and peaceful pools, and the retractable glass roof means rain will never stop play. An enormous outdoor movie screen sits just about the main pool, so grab a drink and perhaps some popcorn, and alternate your viewing position between the pool and your lounger. There are big blockbuster movie showings come night time too; perfect if you never quite get round to gathering the troops to go to the cinema at home!
Royal Caribbean’s evening entertainment really is amazing and the family favourite cruise line is bringing the West End to the seas in the Palace Theatre. Chicago and Hairspray are among the award-winning performances re-enacted perfectly for the gathering crowds, though side-splitting comedy acts and incredibly talented live musicians light up the stage too. It’s all ice shows and acrobatics in Studio B, where the glitzy outfits and jaw-dropping moves will put your pirouettes earlier in the day to shame. Who says that cruise ships are boring?
Once the evening acts have finished, venture in and out of the many bars and lounges that are dotted around the ship. Slip into the Sky Bar with a glass of champagne in hand, find beer on tap in the Tavern sports bar or listen to live musicians in the nautical surroundings of the Schooners Bar.
Have you got your dancing shoes at the ready? You’ll need them in the Star Lounge, where the hits bring the crowds to the dancefloor late into the night. If you prefer quite night caps and sweeping sea views, head to the Viking Lounge. A favourite Royal Caribbean feature, this venue offers the best views on board.
Do you fancy putting your wits to the test in the Casino Royale? From poker and blackjack to roulette and slots, this fabulous venue will have the heart pounding with excitement for a Monte Carlo inspired evening aboard Explorer of the Seas.
Delicious menus are formed from the finest of ingredients in the Sapphire Lounge, Celebrity Explorer’s main dining room. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, it is here that you’ll find the incredible food day in-day out, with dishes changing each night. You’ll find healthy dishes and vegetarian meals too, so you can rest assured that all tastes and dietary requirements are well catered for.
For something extra special, head over to one of the many speciality restaurants on board. Cook your meal ishi-yaki style at Izumi, where you will cook your own succulent meats and seafood on a hot rock placed on your table. Giovanni’s Table dishes up the rustic flavours of Tuscany; perfect for pasta fiends and those who can’t get enough when it comes to creamy Italian fayre. For sophisticated surroundings and the juiciest cuts of steaks, head to the signature steakhouse of Chops Grill.
Johnny Rockets is a favourite across the Royal Caribbean fleet and is a must visit thanks to its authentic 1950’s décor and a jukebox at every table. You’ll pay a really small cover charge to eat here but the burgers are the best in the business and once you’ve tried a Johnny Rockets milkshake, you’ll pay whatever it takes to keep coming back!
Sometimes a little informality and relaxation is needed and for these times look no further than the Windjammer Café. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, this chilled buffet spot is perfect for when you just want to get back to the pool or fancy a cheeky nibble late at night; midnight feasts in the Windjammer Café are legendary. However you like your eggs in the morning, you’ll get them just so from the egg station. Alternatively, get stuck in to fresh baked bread, endless cheese and meat, salads, pastas, pizzas, curry…the list goes on and on. If there’s one thing you’ll never be on a Royal Caribbean cruise, it’s hungry!
