food on board
gerald stafford | May 18, 2015 | Celebrity Cruises | Celebrity Eclipse
To start with the ship over all was very comfortable the cabin spacious and the shower/wc were quiet large compared to other ships that we have been on ,(bring your own showergel as none are provided,it claims to be 5 starr .in hotels shower gel is on hand, the spare soaps and the ships directory misteriousley when missing 2 days before disembarking .) The crew and the cruise staff ticked all the boxes, the glass blowers on the upper deck was quiet a relavation and very good, but ,we found the catering a bit confusing for breakfast as you seem to wonder around buffet, it took us a few days to get in to it as it is a large area with duplications all over .On the Princess boats you go in one end and it seems more ordered. If on the Celebrity boat you wanted a fried egg it was at one end , and if you wanted a omlett you had to go to the other end ,with the sausages/black pud (uncooked)/bacon ,baked beans (a bit watery and bearly warm) scatterd around the buffet area. The bread as in the french sticks were fresh but the other bread ,seem to have been frozen and brought out as and when needed. The coffee was ok, the assortment of fruit juices on offer were tipical USA , very sweet concentrat. At lunch time it was all very samey ass curries/salad bar /pizza,the carvey meat looked as it had been steamed then finised of in the oven, it makes it tender but stringy. The sweets looked colourfull but simple , assorted finger sponges with differant colour glace on the top ,small drinking glasses with a meeger amount of jelley in with a single odd fruit (rasberry /blueberry and manderin segment on top.)The hot sweets with hot custard (I wish) were not up to school dinner standard . In the buffet after noon tea was an assortment of little cakes and sandwidges all very nice ,but scones seemed to be baked to order and soon disappered(as my mother would say carfull catering) The evening buffet was much the same as lunch. down in the resturant for our evening meal was very USA as when a steak ,their was meany variations when it came to the table it was just meat with a token spoon full of veg ,a few and I mean a few peas/ince long green beens and 2/3 small cubes of sautaded potatoes,If you wanted any veg it had to be ordered seperatley ,and it was just carrots /broccerley ,the caulyflower ran out after about 10 days in to the cruise. Generaly the food when it came could have been a lot warmer as it was plated up and stacked waiting to be served ,my wife who loves fish found it allways overcooked having been plated up and stacked. Being mind full that this cruise went to Iceland/Fareo Island where fish is their main industry why was their not any Cod on the menue in stead we had Pollok , as I said before carefull catering , 5 Star? We could see all that going on as to the position of our table (226) .On one night the service was very slow do the a malfuntion or power loss in the kitchen it does happen in the best of places ,the waiting staff did explain and were appollgetic. We did not take the option of the speciality resturants on board ,but the fellow dinners on our table that did ,had very mixed opinions on them. The waiting staff on table got more attentive as the cruise drew to the end and the prospect of tips drew nearer.
The shows on board the ship were as expected 2 or 3 nights of standard song and dance routines comics and singers doing the curcuit the lady singer/comic was word for word same act as we had on a previous Princess cruise.Do they think we do not notice. The talks in the theater of various speakers I found very interesting their could have been more , but thats just me!
Thank you
