Previously sailed on the Eclipes so we knew the quality was guaranteed. It was the fjord experience that were looking forward to and it was AMAZING. The impact of the first morning waking up at 4pm, peeking outside the balcony and seeing the black looming mountains so,so high and what seemed like meters away from us, then looking up and the strips of thin fluffy white cloud floating in front of the mountains, truly memorable.
The ports of call all had their unique attractions, we hiked up one mountain to find the source of a waterfall….gave up after several hours because to turn and see the views around you…well we were in awe! Definately need a return visit to try out that little train which meanders through the mountains. The hop on hop off buses are great to use to find out the history of the country.
Just a point for us anyway, the on board gratuities have always been a bug bare with us (why is it expected that passengers subsides staff wages with tip add ons? One staff member said they didnt actually see them at all in their wage as a seperate figure!!) We never pay up front, and when it is automatically put on on board we get it taken off…..we then have the pleasure of personally looking out for the unsung heroes around ship that have probably never been personally given a tip before…this time the toilet room lady who was shocked she should be considered, or the sauna attendant who cleaned the towels away. Of course we look after the housekeepers and waiters, as they do a wonderful service but the tip goes directly in their hands…….never mind the envelopes that are sent to your stateroom with names of people on that haven’t even given you the time of day, let alone said ‘hello’!
Truly a wonderful destination, but will try another cruise line next time.
