Celebrity or Princess???
Margaret Heeley | December 23, 2018 | Celebrity Cruises | Celebrity Equinox
My husband and I sailed on Celebrity Equinox on 22 February 13, flying from Heathrow with Virgin Atlantic, staying overnight at the Sheraton Beach Hotel Ft Lauderdale (a little disappointing, more like a ‘Days Inn’), 10 day cruise visiting St Thomas, St Kitts, Barbados, Dominica and St Maarten, ending with a day room at Sheraton Miami Airport hotel and flight back to Heathrow.
We went to great lengths to prebook qnd pay extra for ex leg room on the flight and to be sat together, printed our boarding passes before leaving for Heathrow, checked in.. no problem ,,, until we reached the gate… our seats 44Jand 44K were crossed out and changed to 41Aand 42A.. not acceptable.. but we had to board, or miss the flight and our cruise!! Arriving in Miami was not welll organised, we had to find the transport arranged by Celebrity..no-one met us there. This was in complete contrast to our previous cruises with Princess.. everything was well organised and they couldn’t do enough for you.
However once on board ship we were delighted … at last we could begin to really enjoy our holiday! Equinox is a beautiful ship, our balcony cabin on deck 9 was spacious, spotless and superb. Food in the Ocean View Cafe (we had breakfast and buffet lunches there) was absolutely delicious and so much choice. Service was excellent. We opted for 2nd sitting in Silhouette Restaurant 8.30, the only drawback being if we wanted to go to the theatre we had to be there for 7pm. Would have preferred to go at 10.30 after our meal. We prepaid the Classic drinks package which was good, but we may have saved a little by not doing this. The ports of call were excellent. Entertainment brilliant, the performers really worked hard. Food in the main restaurant was wonderful, absolutely top class. All in all a really lovely holiday. Would definitely go with Celebrity again if the price was good. Celebrity or Princess???… Princess just has the edge for us…. It has that extra something, goes the extra mile and has that special ‘WOW’ factor. Celebrity was a little dull in decor, but very classy, and staff were very helpful and always smiling. We would sail with both of them again!
