We have just returned from what was supposed to be a holiday of a lifetime a chest virus and my friend developed flu which did take the edge of it however apart from the last 3 days which were sea days we still had a great holiday.
The Solstice overall was good the ship itself was very light and bright spotlessly clean and the staff excellent friendly and really helpful. However, the first few days were spoilt by the persistent pressure selling of drinks packages and the specialist restaurant venues. We are not big drinkers and the price of the drinks packages were extortionate. If we had wanted one or wanted to eat in a specialist restaurant we would have sorted it we didn’t need to be stopped every few metres to be asked. Going back to drinks the price of wine in the restaurant was very expensive for nothing special I thought it was supposed to be duty free!!
The food was good in the ocean view cafe plenty of choice and something for every taste the restaurant though was disappointing the food itself was good but very small portions(1scallop for an appetiser!) also the choices were disappointing and repetitive.
Does it really take 3 days to go from Adelaide to Perth? We felt as if the ship was virtually stopping to fill the hours in another stop or two days in Sydney would have been better.
The entertainment was ok the theatre group were excellent but we didn’t see enough of them instead rubbish comedians filled the evenings.
I also was disappointed with daytime activities on sea days if you didn’t want sport or spa lectures there was nothing else a film indoors would have been good it was very windy on the top deck outdoor cinema!
Overall we had a lovely holiday and the niggles didn’t spoil it but from choice I wouldn’t choose celebrity again unless it was the only cruise line visiting a specific destination.
