First Cunard experience for 30 years
Emma O'Connor | November 22, 2022 | Cunard | Queen Elizabeth
We sailed on Queen Victoria to give Cunard a try. We are well travelled P&O cruisers and wanted to see what we were missing. Our conclusion was – we’re not missing much. We found the staff nowhere near as friendly and service very inconsistent. The quality of the food was very good but the waiters were on the whole – awful!
Some breakfast times were a struggle merely to get a refill of tea or coffee.
On the plus side – we loved the free room service, build your own pasta, burgers and pizza, and the rolls at mealtimes were much better than on p&o. Unfortunately, that’s where the favourable comparisons end.
We had three in our cabin, but had to chase around on the first and last night just to get the sofa bed pulled out for us, it’s unacceptable.
Also – our other major issue was the price of the drinks – they were ridiculous.
We feel the difference in the service comes down to the service charge automatically being added. I simply feel the Cunard staff feel like they don’t really have to try. The p&o staff give better service because their tips depend on it – call me cynical but I wouldn’t tip any of the staff on the Cunard cruise but always tip on p&o.
