Travelled 4 times across the Atlantic on this fabulous liner. Yes it is the only liner left in the world. But wanted to try out how it would be as a cruise liner. So we went to the Canary Isles, visiting Lisbon, Tenerife, Las Palmas and Funchal. The weather was perfect all the way.Facilities whether on Atlantic crossings or on this cruise are excellent. Food and refereshments are overpowering. Some guests (that is who Cunard want to call you) are continually eating. Wow how can they devour all that? Staying with food, perhaps may have not lived up to previous standards. Vegetables have been very “aldente” and cold.on occassions mainly in the Kings Court restaurant area. Some meat dishes at dinner have been very tough. These are very critical observations and should be taken overall. For example many of the fish dishes were excellent and could not be bettered. Where food is concerned it depends on the receiver as to how he is pleased!.
As mentioned previously weather was excellent which gives more credit to pleasure.Ship docked precicely on time. No problems with clearence to get ashore. But how long should we suffer these checks to get back on board? Try New York, Brooklyn. Are they so traumotised still with 9/11?. Cunard fell into the Carnival Group, wich is of course an American comapny and is obviously controlled by American safe guards. So all though RMS Queen Mary 2 plies the Atlantic as a descendent of the Queen Mary really there is no connection just nostalga. Carnival have exploited Cunard /White Star and done very well.
This bijou cruise to the Canary Isles was excellent and proved that this liner can do cruising as well as Atlantic crossings. How many cruise ships could attempt it?????
