Great cruise with Cunard

First time we have sailed with Cunard although we have done about 12 cruises in all. This was a last minute booking and we felt the price was good value. Embarkation involved some queuing but disembarkation was very straightforward and it was great to be able to stay on the ship and use the facilities until 4 hours before the flight was due rather than being shipped off first thing in the morning like some cruise lines do. The ship is very elegant and everything was spotlessly clean. We had an inside cabin on deck 6 and it was the most spacious inside cabin and bathroom we have ever had on a cruise ship. The food was lovely with a decent choice of dishes in the Britannia restaurant. The waiting staff and cabin stewardess were excellent. Despite the ship being full it never felt really crowded anywhere and we always got good seats by the pool and in the theatre. The entertainment was good on the whole especially the comedian. We only did one shore excursion at the port of Volos in Greece and made our own way in the other ports. The excursion was well organised and reasonable value for money.

The only downsides I would say are we found a lot of the alcohol prices to be very expensive. We know cruise lines charge a lot for alcohol but the wine prices in particular seemed excessive. Also there wasn’t really much to do after the evening show finished. We are in our early sixties and are not wanting anything mega lively but we found there was no atmosphere in a lot of the bars.
On the whole though we would still give Cunard 5 stars and will definitely consider them for our next cruise.
