Queen Victoria V609
John Rushworth | April 23, 2014 | Cunard | Queen Victoria
Once again a superb cruise on the QV visiting, amongst others, Croatia and Montenegro – well worth a visit if you haven’t been. The reason we haven’t given full marks to condition and cleanliness is that in the stateroom some drawers were broken and the carpet was in need of replacement/cleaning. In terms of overall cleanliness the outside windows in the public areas and also on the balcony were in desperate need of cleaning. We reported this when on board and when we disembarked at Athens there was a great deal of activity cleaning windows.
In terms of the overall score we are reluctant to give excellent for the following reason. We have cruised several times with Cunard, and have others booked, one of the many reasons being the dress code. Cunard state on their website – All Cunard ships have a dress code on board in order to create an ambience throughout the ship and set the tone for the evening. Oh that it were so. We noticed on this cruise a distinct lack of adherence to the code. As an example, on one formal evening we were leaving the Commodore Club at 8.15 pm to go to dinner only to be met by a group of passengers wearing tea-shirts, torn jeans and shorts making their way to the Commodore Club. The question we ask is who is responsible for enforcing the dress code on board, because on this cruise there was distinct lack of enforcement. There also appears to be a lack of communication between shore and ship about the themed evenings, the entertainment staff didn’t appear to be aware of the information we received and on the Company website. Clearly a lack of communication between shore and ship!
Having had this grouse we have to say we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, met some very nice fellow passengers, and we look forward to our next cruise with Cunard.
