So well worth the wait.

Four years ago I booked a cruise for my husband and myself. I had to cancel and delay it because he was too ill to go. Sadly he passed away two months before the new date but I decided to go with a friend. Then Covid, three more attempts were made all cancelled because of it. At last on 4th September, we set sail for the Adriatic aboard the lovely Queen Victoria.

What a holiday. For us every aspect of the entire cruise was perfect. I know different folks expect different things, some may agree with me some might not, that is the way of things.

For us from the very first moment, we could not have asked for more. Some of the artists in the theatre were not to our liking but again personal choice. The speakers were varied and very interesting. The ports were well thought out and well organised even with the changes for us it was a bonus but did cause upset with some passengers.

The customer service, friendliness of the staff and efficiency were outstanding. Although two of our table companions would disagree as they had a less than helpful cabin steward. Our guy was perfect, pleasant, unobtrusive but absolutely faultless.

Some nights we felt like opting out of formality and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of the self service restaurant. Now this does deserve a particular mention. During my last cruise, on the Elizabeth that time some five years ago. The self service was very poor in every way. The choices, the presentation and temperature of the food were very substandard.

This year it was vastly different. For health reason I cannot eat red meat and this was catered for regally. Usually two choices of fish, vegetarian and even vegan choices. Well done Cunard for addressing that problem.

In all it was the holiday I had wanted even needed for so long. Both my friend and I are still singing it’s praises and will live through the miserable months of the coming winter with such warm memories. Thank you, Cunard and thank you Bolsover for your three years of care through such demanding times.
