Standards are slipping.
Michael Craig | December 20, 2022 | Cunard | Queen Victoria
Cabin 8120. V233. 29th November 2022.
On arrival in the cabin we went into the bathroom, and the tap was running continuously, and the toiletry cage was hanging off the bulkhead.
We informed the stateroom attendant, and he informed us that he reported it the previous week before the Amsterdam cruise, and nothing had been done. The next day I went to the Pursers office and reported it again.
Later in the day, two people came to the cabin and looked at the tap and said “sorry, we have not got the spare part and left”
A ship the size of Queen Victoria and they have no spare parts!!!! It was running for the whole cruise and continued to do so when we left.
After that, two other people came and replaced the toiletry cage. The toiletries have been watered down to such an extent; they run straight through your fingers.
The first night at dinner, we asked for New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. We were informed that there was none on board! The Sommelier suggested Sancerre which we accepted. 5 days later we were informed that they had run out of Sancerre and we had to have either South African Sauvignon or Pinot Grigio
The service in the Chart Room was extremely slow. They were understaffed, and the waiters worked very hard to serve passengers. I placed a drinks order and timed how long it took to arrive. 22 minutes! Passengers were walking out.
Before the cruise we purchased the beverage package at a cost of $1,656. As it was taking so long to be served and the fact that we were unable to obtain the wine we required, we feel that the beverage package was not worth the price paid.
Last year we took the same cruise at the same time on Queen Elizabeth, and we never saw the Captain or any officers. We put that down to being post Covid.
This year was exactly the same. Cunard cannot put it down to Covid now. There was no Captains welcome party. As we are Platinum Members we expected a Senior officers Drinks Party. There was not one.
On the second night at dinner, a glass of Proscecco was placed on the tables, and we were informed it was from the Captain. It is just cost cutting.
Short staffing, slow service, cut backs on board, the standards are slipping. Cunard Line is not what it used to be.
Every day at noon the Captain used to finish his address with” I hope to see you around the ship” We never saw him once!! We would not have known him if we fell over him!! All the officers are hiding on the top deck accommodations.
The daily newspaper has been stopped. You have to go and request it from the Pursers Office. The excuse is being, carbon neutral.
The photographer has gone.
Being an ex-Cunard employee from 1972-1979 I am disappointed with the way the company is going. We have always had an affinity with Cunard, even though we have sailed with other lines.
In December 2023, we have made a reservation for the Mediterranean Cruise. Due to the disappointment of the cruise we have just had, we are seriously considering cancelling it.
However, on the plus side, I have to say that the food was quality was excellent, and the waiting staff we had at our table 309 went above and beyond their duty.
T. Craig.
