This our first and probably only cruise with Cunard. Our doubts started before we left home as there were no times of arrivals or departures at any port and when I phoned Bolsover to query this, they said we’d find out on board. Now we know why. We made to believe we had 2 days in tromso and Narvic todiscover that the ship left both ports at 3 am thus we were at sea. 7 days in total out of 12. This is pure deceit on Cunard’s part and a disgrace. Our other gripes are as below.
Room tired with threads on curtains and food stains on lampshade.
Food was often bland and the desserts were very disappointing, often not tasting what they were described as i.e Baileys cheesecake, not a trace of Baileys.
Desserts in the Britannia Retaurant were certainly not fine dining. Out of 4 desserts, 3 were cakes. Cake is NOT dessert.
Everything was very expensive and no soft drinks with evening meal is poor compared to other cruise lines. Only free coffee available from the Lido buffet machine.
Staff were very reserved (perhaps instructed by Cunard) but no interaction with customers. Definitely catering for the much older client
Everything seemed a bit behind the times, no access to your bill on the tv in your room, the map showing where you were was pathetic and looked like a child had designed it with no information on it at all.
Seemed to be an issue with whipped cream! I asked for some with my french toast in the Britannia breakfast but after 20 mins was told they couldn’t do it and gave me pouring cream instead. The whipped cream in the buffet restaurant was NOT double cream, it was a strange yellow colour and tasted of nothing. A recurring problem with the food.
So, you can see, we were not impressed and will stick to Celebrity in future who blow Cunard out of the water.
And why was everything in dollars when it left Southampton and had 75% british passengers? Perhaps to confuse us how costly everything was perhaps??
