Great Cruise with only minor quibbles!
Stuart Woolf | June 7, 2016 | Holland America Line | Noordam
Our first time with this line. Generally a lovely ship but the balcony railing was pitted and rusty.. A recent case of GI trouble caused a late boarding as it was disinfected thoroughly. No self service for three days until it all cleared. Masses of Purel cleanser at every turning!
Food was first class and very tasty and varied. The dining room service was excellent. (That magic word!) We were acknowledged by the staff wherever we went, apart from those in white jackets who simply didn’t. The Cruise Director tried hard and somewhat overstressed the need to allocate a “9” to everyone. A case of overkill? The entertainment in the theatre was great – fresh and new. However, there was a trend to use the lighting system to blind the audience most of the time, and most evenings had fewer people sitting centrally, to avoid the moving lights. There was a rock band playing in the lounges (a bad choice) and as a consequence this lounge was empty every evening after the show. I was served a glass of wine at double the price advertised. When I queried it, I was told they had run out of the original! Not happy!
These a minor problems. We had a great time.
